June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Good Monday Morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Our family was very busy this past weekend, had to take our 9 year old doggy to the Emergency Vet, turns out she is very anemic, which typically doesn't turn out too well for dogs, she is on steroids to suppress her immune system in order to let the red blood cells come up, she seems improved, but I feel we are only delaying the inevitable. We will take her in to our family vet and see what he has to say. It's always hard. Little sleep the last few nights, we kind of take turns watching her or being alert as we sleep, if she does take a turn for the worse, we don't want her to deal with her remaining time on earth alone while we are sleeping. If she starts to demonstrate other symptoms of failure, we'll have to take her in and put her down. Life, don't we love it! Even though her industry is primarily dominated by men, this hasn’t stopped her from making a name for herself in the design world. We discovered her work while perusing the Architectural Digest Show last year and were immediately transfixed by her sculptural wood pieces and detailed woven patterns that are transposed onto chairs, stools and benches. We were excited to include the company’s totems in our cover shoot with Julia Stiles. We stepped into the Peg Woodworking world to find Kate and her two assistants, Sally and Catherine, hard at work polishing, sanding and creating at their studio in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We also explored their design studio in Fort Greene. We were fascinated by the process and how you will be too. Read more....
June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post John, sorry to read about your pup. My sincere sympathies, friend. It's hard to let go, I know. The article re: Peg Woodworking is captivating. That's one young lady who's prepared herself very well for success. She has a brilliant future in her chosen field.
June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Hope for the best for your dog. They are family, gotta be there for them. Finished up my bench. Lazy Susan that goes on top is in finishing stages. Then I need a drying rack.
June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Weed eating the grass on the side of me house LOL. Its going to be far too warm here this week to even get much done. Still planning out how I'm going to do my shop. Sadly I have to get permission to even do it from management. Either way should be interesting.
June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post John I can feel the pain . We have buried one pet in the last three houses we have lived in and the one here has a stone. Now current dog has higher vet bills than the family medical bills , well ok she has no insurance. Still working on finishing bowls and other works in shop. Got the second turn and foot done on several bowls and a platter. Hope to brand and add finish . Gonna try a new finish for me , Waterlox.
June 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Sorry to hear about your dog John. Hope the meds help. We have the ashes from our dogs Dusty and Casey who passed away long ago. Our dog Coco is now 12. Loosing her hearing and eyesight , but otherwise seems to be doing well.
June 23, 20206 yr Popular Post John - Sorry to hear about your dog. 9 years old seems like she's getting cheated. We lost two at nine. I've always felt that they understand and accept it much sooner that we do. Still doesn't make it any easier. My head is full of projects, and I'm tempted to rush into them all. But we all know how that turns out! I started building a Murphy bed today. We have only two bedrooms and no place for SWMBO to set up sewing or tv room, etc. So the Murphy is a good solution and comfortable when we do have company. Compared to most of what I see here, it's hardly woodworking - following a cut sheet and some precision fitting. However, the options for finishing the exterior are unlimited.

June 23, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Thanks folks for the doggy wishes, we appreciate it greatly. I had to put her outside early this morning, I awoke to her making a mess all over our bedroom carpet, normally she has always warned us, with a happy lick to the face, hey guys, I need to go out, and we always had plenty of time to get her out and wait a few minutes and bring her back in, but her bowels must of surprised her. Been up since 2am cleaning and getting ready to head to work now. As much as we love our Jessie, I think I am ready for a doggy break for a little while, we still have ol Woody the little dog, he's 14 yrs old, his card is almost up as well. After our dogs leave us, we'll probably rest for a little while before we adopt another cutie from the shelter. We been needing new carpet upstairs, I think I just found a good cause for our Covid check to go too. We'll have to wait till Jessie either gets better, or the good Lord decides it's time to bring her home. Hey @steven newman, someday I have to backtrack through all the Monday topics and make up a montage of Newman quotes regarding Mondays, it wouldn't be hard to do, they typically start with "Mondays?" or "Monday, nuff said".
June 23, 20206 yr Author Popular Post @Gunny, I miss my ol Ford 1987 F-150, I could actually crawl in it and work, change things out, though the plugs were a tad buried in that model too, nothing compared to later models, I don't even bother working on any of our vehicles anymore, I don't even change the oil, seems less expensive to just take it in and let them deal with the disposal etc. By the time I'm done changing oil, I'm bout 50 bucks or so into it not including time and travel to dispose of the old oil. On a good coupon day we can take our vehicles into Firestone and get an oil change for $29.99 anymore. When I was a kid I worked on my dad's 1965 F-100, I could climb in the engine compartment and make a home.
June 26, 20206 yr Sorry to hear about your Jessie, John. Going through much the same thing here, but in our case it's our son. Cancer is a b1*ch! John

We thought things were starting to improve, but about six weeks ago he started having very bad mood swings, and couldn't remember the simplest words. Some of his texts were complete gibberish, and he was in constant pain! Tests were done, and showed that the colon cancer had metastasized to the lungs, brain and bones of his left shoulder, one hip and most of his spine. He'll be lucky to make it through another year. Like I said, this cancer thing is the pits! On the plus side, today was one of his better days. He had several friends over, and we shot a few clays, and now they're having a barbeque. John
June 27, 20206 yr Popular Post John M. prayers for you and your family plus that dear little pet. I love dogs. Our last dog, Pete, left this world about 10 years ago. I sat with him while he drew his last breaths. I can't do it again. He was 14. John H, prayers also for you, your family and your son. It seems to be all over. It is heart wrenching. I pray that the Good Lord gives you the strength to get through it.
