March 4, 20206 yr A really nice piece of work and a very functional unit. However, I missed the runners for the drawer. I will review it a little later.
March 4, 20206 yr Great work, and thank you for sharing all the steps that went into it. It's great to travel that journey as well as see the finished piece.

That's a right smart little box there Steven, what will you use it for? Re: staining the inside of the drawers... have you ever used any dyes? I've taken to using water based dyes with a few coats of thinned shellac on top and have been very pleased with the results. The alcohol smell goes away quick.
March 4, 20206 yr Author Might be a tool chest? Have a spot upstairs as a "Catch-all" for all sorts of small tools and bits....
March 4, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Drawer runners? drawers slide on plywood floors. Nothing fancy. The lid is 12-1/2" x 8" and is 1/4" thick. Rest of the wood started out at 5/16" thick...by the time they were all planed smooth...they were at 1/4". Right now? I need to go and buy a brush or two....to add a coat of varnish to this box.

The "Good bits"? Middle drawer...
March 7, 20206 yr Popular Post The reason I asked about the drawer runners, I missed it. I went back and found the plywood separator. I designed a box almost like this for a widow next door who also lost her oldest son. She wanted a box to put his merit badges and shirts in from many years ago. I am going to make it from cedar and it will be sealed so as not to color the contents. Thank you for showing me this box and your process. I will copy this. Thanks again for another great job and sharing how to do it.
