February 21, 20206 yr Popular Post Well, it’s Friday again, folks. I’ve been in the shop working on stock (cutting boards and a coffee mill) for a May show but no pictures. I do have a picture to prove that I can clean up. I recently accepted a City Council position to complete the term of a friend that died while in office and I had to have my picture and contact info put on the city web site. If you have a rodent problem, cut, paste and print as needed. They will run. So, Patriot Woodworkers, what’s on your weekend agenda?

Oh, wait, I'm talking about our flag, hey you look pretty danged good too! So Ron, how is the May show inventory shaping up, you on track, behind? I don't know what I am doing this weekend, no marching orders from LOML, so I am kind of lost. I can't actually believe I may have a free weekend! Dang I probably just blew it by saying that.
February 21, 20206 yr Nice picture BUT the flag is hanging backwards. Stars hang on the right as it faces out Flag Etiquette. Working on finishing my Fire Stix and doing executive tops from a post Lew did in Wednesdays turning post. And came up with a idea to clean another corner in the shop.

Two were holdovers and their pictures were already take. Their pictures are just like mine. Two haven’t been taken. I’ll tell the secretary to reverse the image.

February 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Nice picture Ron, so far this week I have not been elected to any political posts. I am more of the guy behind the scenes. And wear a suit, OMG you are asking for a lot!! My week ends with a couple of small projects almost done and some cleaning and reorganizing of what will now be my office in the house. Actually have been in this same room for several years but am now taking the time to set it up as such. Tired of having to got to my wife's office and figure out where something is. No doubt I will have to go to shop to make something for the office. Finished this last night. Hold every size candle we currently have. One and DONE!! Yeah for the moment anyway.

February 22, 20206 yr Popular Post Road Trip today....got some ME time....Antique Center down in Springfield....spent a bit of cash... $3 Gent's saw....have since removed the black tape....and... $22.50 for a Millers Falls #15.....not 14... but a No. 15 Jumbo Jack.... Cleaned it up this evening... Iron is now sharp.... Is a Type 3, made during WW2....adjuster wheel is steel, as is the bolts for the "Domestic Hardwood" handles.. Cleaned all the paint off, the back-filled the Logo in Cardinal Red... So...now I have a set of Millers Falls Jack planes....#11, #14, and the #15....

February 22, 20206 yr It was a fun Friday. Went with neighbor to help clean the drain at their one home. Picture two guys one 61 the other 63 both with their backs out hauling a commercial size "Electric Eel" down and then back up a flight of stairs. ... …....Glad there was no film. On todays menu... Waiting for brother to show up so's I can "help" fix brakes on I think it's a 2005 Malibu At least one caliper. Then if "we" get that done take code reader to find out why his 2000 Blazer's "Check Engine" lights on, and it will only go 15 MPH. ........He just got it "back from the shop". ...

February 23, 20206 yr ...I was wrong it's a 2004 Malibu. Had to replace pads, caliper, and brake hose. Midas did the brakes when they first got the car. For some reason they had three copper washers on the caliper end of the hose. Couldn't get it to reseal, so replaced the hose. The 2000 Blazers another story showing two codes with two more pending. First the showing codes. P0300 Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. P0420 Catalytic Efficiency Below Threshold Bank One And the pending codes P0101 MAF VAF A Ckt Rng Perform P0404 EGR Flow Ckt Rng Perform My brother just had the coil replaced earlier in the week. $200.00+ including tow. Oh well got one out of two done.

A vacuum leak can cause this code, or a misfire. Or a plugged up converter. You can also get this code from a small insect taking residence on a wire inside the sensor. If you have a scanner that has bi-directional controls it speeds up checking it out. Can be as simple as a bad EGR solenoid / valve assembly. Or a plugged port, or a wire / wires that a critter has decided looked tasty. And yes I see this a lot where I work. Lot of retired folks that don't drive often. Perfect place for the rodents to make nest / or eat wires and hoses. AND to top all the above off you could potentially have a bad ground, or a ECM that has just decided to hell with it I quit. For those that wonder why we can't just look at a code and say it is thus, only in a perfect world. For just this one set of codes P0171 /P0174 the list is several pages long of things to check. These checks go from vacuum leaks to Fuel Pressure and anything in between. Long gone are the days of tuning up your own vehicle and slapping a cap and rotor button on to keep going. Code readers are great but that is only the beginning of your journey into this mechanical nightmare. Even so, most days I enjoy the challenge and I am well compensated for my knowledge and skillset. But some days when I am getting beaten to death on a problem changing oil and an air filter are a welcome distraction.
