Here we are, Tuesday, I completely forgot the Monday topic! I had a government holiday off yesterday, thought yesterday was Sunday.

Composing this short topic from the cab of my work truck.

Don't feel bad John, since I retired everyday feels like a Monday. 

Working on a cathouse sawhorse merged design. Wife wants 2 cat houses. I would like two solid sawhorses. So if I can merge the two it's a win win deal. A work in progress.

Old lathe home (really old picture- notice the Bridgewood planer and the clean utility sink!!)-

 

Couldn't part with the drawer space so that was moved to set under the drill press

 

Of course that meant some other stuff need to find a home

 

The air compressor and a small cabinet should fit under the new lathe-

 

Working on a lathe tool holder, now, and the old lathe dust collection outlet will need to be modified. Probably going to reverse the position of the compressor and cabinet to allow for better placement of the dust collector hose.

I got a bit of time ,started and then a Chiefs game followed by a Dallas game.. that's like 6-7 hours couch time.

 

Monday  followed with grandpa daycare and dialysis at night 

 

What's a guy ta do......

Hey Woodbutcherby a couple of cat boxes are on my menu also.. We have been furnishing Meow Mix for the 20 years we have lived here and now decided to build something to keep them warmer in the winter. I had left an opening under the house for them but realized other varmints have been sleeping there and tearing out the insulation so...No pets inside my house...can't stand the smell and wouldn't want to spend money for someone else to keep them clean for us, so, outside only.

Wow John you know how to scare a fellow I already feed the bread mix and saw it was Monday a day early. Glad you clarified.

 

@lew looks you could put that planer on a portable stand to store nnder that post drill press. Move the sink into that spot and viola "lathe space". Oh if you concentrate like I do a compress startup under my feet would be a hole in the ceiling.

 

My schedule gets tighter . Yesterday a neighbor had some pecan and redbud I cut up. Got the pecan back to shop (all large limbs ) and removed the sapwood which was full of bugs and holes and squared it. That killed a lot of time and nearly wore me out. Had two bowls I did a Inlace ring on . One was dry cherry and worked as expected. The other I forgot has to be dry before inlay or the drying bowl will shrink out from under the inlay and yes it did.

 

Oh forgot went by a friends house and he gave me two cherry blanks Monday morning. Then went by Hobby Lobby and Michaels and got some supplies for making necklaces. Gosh what a day.

@Gerald That's why I keep it turned off unless I'm actually using it. Sometimes I forget it and it starts in the middle of the night. That'll wake you up! I need to update my shop pictures. There's still no room but the lack of space has been rearranged.

Lew, I am going to steal your idea about how to store bandsaw blades.  Incredible idea.  

 

Little done over the weekend.  The city replaced the sidewalk in front of our house.  The landscaping afterward was rather juvenile, so most of that is repaired and leveled.  Contracted for a concrete driveway.  No permits!  Did you get that?  No permits required to cut down the curb and pour a concrete driveway.  It's a long sorted story so we won't go there.  

Monday, busy day.  Dermatologist first thing in the morning, a little liquid nitrogen on the back of my hands, top of my head and both of my ears.  Declared that I have some serious precancer on those spots.  After the doctor, went to the bread stored as I can not make decent bread rolls, but I can doctor them really well.  A little olive oil on each roll, some oregano, some garlic powder and some garlic salt.  Bake at 325 for about 6 minutes or less.  Then brought the wife back home, made her breakfast, went to 2 different grocery stores to get food supplies.  Trimmed over growth from deceased neighbor's yard.  Still have a bunch of that to clean up.  Today, just as bad.  Went to the credit union, the pharmacy to get all my creams for precancer skin, some more cream for facial maintenance.  (I don't care much what it looks like.  )  Went to another grocery store to get items that are not found at the first 2.  Went to 2 different schools to pick up grandchildren.  Thanks, to Gene for blowing some of the cool air and rain this way.  We are getting it.  It was only 88 today.  Beach water temp is 86.  

Found a project for next spring....maybe. It'll be walnut, though. And, there'll have to be two.

Love it! Absolutely!!!

Well, I did it again. I failed to clear it with the wife. She nixed the rockers as being not appropriate for our grandkids rooms. 

She thinks small tables would be better. So....

Nice looking table, but not as comfortable looking as the chairs. 

Make the chair and leave off the rockers. I was really looking forward to that chair. Tell the wife you are getting practice with the white oak lumber.

I built a Limbert table something like that, only took me 3 years.   I had started it at our last house and the parts got wrapped together and moved here.  discovered it while (finally) getting all my shop stuff moved into the shop.

Guys, I'd love to build at least one of those rockers. But, we don't have the space for any more furniture. I did build two Morris chairs and, thoroughly enjoyed the process. 

@Gene Howe I'm curious, what did you do for cushions on the Morris chairs?

 

I had an upholstery shop make them. I have a very limited skill set that doesn't include upholstery. I suck at diamond cutting, too.

A friend did his own cushions and swore he'd never do it again. 

when I had my furniture finishing shop I had a partner who did all the upholstery. Back then lots of couches and overstuffed chairs to match...Upholstering is lots faster than finishing.  Good fast money for those guys if they can feed the material through the sewing machine straight. I don't know why there is not more upholstery shops like use to be.

There's only one close to me. They stay busy. A lot of their business is car seats and headliners for the restorers and custom builders.
