I kinda like the wider heart wood at the bottom. But that's just me.

Same here, just looks right.  The other way makes it look like the tree grew upsidedown.

:JawDrop:busy day?

layout lines...square set to 1/2".  Coming from the "inside" of the panel..

1838437696_DVDDoorstopline2.JPG.8befb299fc53485f63108d50bcf71298.JPG

Ran it all the way around, this is where the edge of the bevels will stop at...

885079748_DVDDoorpanelclamped1.JPG.081eab5a2763170b5ec5ad7137c218cc.JPG

Clamp the panel to the bench.   I do the ends first...:ChinScratch:

Square set to 1-1/4" in from the edges, where the bevel begins...grab one of these thingys...:WonderScratch:

Paul Sellers uses the Stanley #4, and I use the Stanley #3 to finish the bevels smooth..B)

1246491117_DVDDoor1stbevel.JPG.6de15657db2417fbe8b65536614fc8ba.JPG

1st bevel.   Rotate end for end..

1843827580_DVDDoor2ndbevel.JPG.7be1525457e63d35ce0e7ee703f95047.JPG

And do bevel #2 on the end.   Reset the jig..:Cheer:

Goal here is to bevel the sides, to match the lay out lines...trying to get that angled corner...:ChinScratch:

1338330571_DVDDoorsidebeveldone.JPG.a5649f33d5b4def366c7904871efcac5.JPG

Need to set up a rebate plane, tomorrow..

1494129225_DVDDoorrebateplane.JPG.2adafb960141772a721cdf2a8baa2fad.JPG

And run it all the way around on the inside of the panel...goal is to center the panel in the frame's grooves.    May try for a glue up, and see about some hinges..

While the bevels look nice, they don't fit into the grooves in the door's frame...so

79911354_DVDDoorpanelgroovemaker.JPG.34a2c8f105bf12a32e9b14be826a4521.JPG

Set the saw up...more consistant results IF I cut a groove to plane to....:ChinScratch:

343327179_DVDDoorpanelgroovy.JPG.677788d0a500a0cf9743a5f97628fb87.JPG

Then used both that #78 sitting back there( has a fence and a depth stop) and an old rebate plane:OldManSmiley:

22132758_DVDDoorpaneloldrebateplane.JPG.c263309bd8eb42bca77b7ce07aac5869.JPG

To work on the long grain sides...no depth stop, nor a fence:ChinScratch:

Got one rebate done..:Cheer:

2084695435_DVDDoorpanel1strebate.JPG.4b62912c4e083daa3bd49389fdf0e9d8.JPG

And did a test fit...

1964722629_DVDDoorpaneltestfit1.JPG.eeb950251ee425f9bb167e3034ccc6b9.JPG

Should do the job :WonderScratch: Then the other cross grain end...same results....then reset the jig

124316814_DVDDoorpaneljigreset.JPG.ecee8a3aa848e4706f8f924823ac5a11.JPG

Then run the 2 rebate planes..and do a test fit...B)

Hmm, a bit of tear-out.:BangingHead:.we have ways...once both sides were done...then a small plane was used..B)

Stanley No. 60-1/2...adding a "back bevel"....then things were sanded a bit..:Cheer:

.669359833_DVDDoorpanelcauldetails.JPG.0e2eac5c560a7393c184b2b036756519.JPG

Set out 4 cauls...and did a glue up...

621849075_DVDDoorpanelglueup2.JPG.513163c40ef5cd70b5054790aa0bebf7.JPG

Vise helps doing these glue-ups...like a 3rd hand.  Will let this sit a day....

Maybe tomorrow, get this ready for the hinges....may do a round over, too.:ChinScratch:

Stay tuned :cowboy:

You wouldn't think it would be that hard to add a door....:BangingHead: without cussing enough to make a Marine blush.:ArguingSmileys: But....

Clamps came off this afternoon....no funny noises, might be a good sign    until I laid the door on the case...

163742381_DVDDoor1stfitting.JPG.fa13926fb9c6a63fce70c2d76a1cf156.JPG

Shelves stuck out a bit...planed them lower.  upper part of the case was wider than the bottom...shelves had bowed things out.  Beltsander, ROS, Palm sander, planes...until both sides were flush...

Ran a 3/8" round-over bit  around the outside edges of the door...let this sit a bit...Dug out the Veritas ( the only such toy in the shop, bought when they were first made) 3/8" tapered plug cutter..

1401147586_DVDDoorplugcutter.JPG.51dc347965c426234024bf0e07ebc16f.JPG

To make 4 plugs, in Walnut.  Had to down=shift the Harbor Freight drill press down to "granny gear", or else the Veritas bit would burn the plugs..before I could install them...

1829240849_DVDDoorWalnutplugs.JPG.0782bcacd1954e6b68b1f3e6242c79d6.JPG

Pop out with a screwdriver, bit of glue, hammer to install...wide chisel to pare the waste off...block plane if needed.

Ok, got the door even all the way around...

839047976_DVDDoorfittedtothecase.JPG.d23df62b45ac78c52479919f8546225d.JPG

Then dig out the tools for the hinge install...hammer and chisel to mortise for the leaf,

64964314_DVDDoorhingeinstalls.JPG.07922e9849b6b2d72c6066859da8dae8.JPG

Screw starter to drive a pilot hole...hinges to the door are surface mounted...

356882522_DVDCabinetPIPinside.JPG.12b469ac6c56e2ba38753a3057486a44.JPG

Went to install a latch....none to be found in the shop..:ArguingSmileys:  So, just close the door..

1217691609_DVDCabinetPIPwithdoor.JPG.dbc096c84eadb6e0c7bd41136ebe6e14.JPG

I was going to just add the stain....brushes were still upstairs...:BangingHead:

As for those plugs?

1727955348_DVDCabinetPIPhingeandplugs.JPG.2c92526e5ca1e57cf23681d67050567d.JPG

At least they came out alright...decided to take a break, for a while...maybe after the football games are done, I can take a brush to the shop, and add a coat of "Gunstock" stain...

Stay tuned

Still need a latch for this side of the door ( where I can reach it from the computer desk..)

Later, may add either more shellac, or just top coat it in clear gloss....

(BTW,...there is still a 1 x 6 x 9' plank in the house...wonder IF I could build a table out of that   :WonderScratch:)

Build seems to be done, just finishing the FInish and that latch, is left to do...Stay tuned..

Classic!!!  Look great!

Neat project that looks as beautiful as any craftsmans work.  And, the story is super.  I am tuckered out watching all this work.  Time for a nap.:OldManSmiley:
