October 3, 20196 yr Author Well, first the easy part of today's follies....stained and wiped down the box..care for a look ? From the front.. to around in back. Let this sit a day, then get out the can of varnish...rest of the afternoon? Was a little busy. Cut a chunk of Poplar on the #358 mitre box... The reason for that screw? It is pushing against 2 others.. That act as a plane stop. Need to take this 1/2" thick plank down as close to 1/4" as I can...with a plane or 2... It works nice..but I'd be still planing away...too slow. Nice for that final swipe, though. got a bit more aggressive.. Millers Falls No. 11, Junior Jack...same amount of time, lot more work done. Finally, gave things the once over with the No. 3.. More to hit a few spots. Then a few rip cuts on the bandsaw. . Including a handle blank. Strip of plywood was helping with a layout problem. Had a few boards that needed flattened out better... No. 3, again. Plan was some sort of fancy corner joints.....didn't work out...went with glue and nails...and a plywood panel for a bottom. Couple of 1 x 1s glued into the bottom of the box as supports..lot of sanding, then a coat of that same stain...test fit? Just a simple tray. Has a way to lift it out of the box.... Now you can see the supports. Might as well close things up... Try tomorrow to gets things varnished up...stay tuned...
October 4, 20196 yr I can see that Igor has his hands full cleaning shop tonight. You are going to have to give the little fellow a little time off after all the work you have been giving him of late.
October 5, 20196 yr Author Popular Post Waiting on coat #2 of Amber shellac to finish drying... later, I give it a rub down... To kind of even things out, a bit.... Would rather not add stain and finish to the insides....takes forever for the stink to leave... Later today, I come back and buff things out....might be about done?
October 5, 20196 yr Ever try charcoal? I had a chest I finished the inside with oil based poly. Left dozen pieces of charcoal inside for couple days. No more smell.
