A lot of it is pretty fine and will probably dissolve in the water.  Did I crush it too much?

Also, I wound up with a 5 gallon pail full.

grape nut sized chunks...

Do you get activated charcoal or use charcoal briquettes?

Charcoal that I normally grill with, 2 bags for $10 when they have a sale.  Nothing special, your car or truck uses same stuff to recover fuel vapors.

It's kind of difficult to see what's happening when there is a cloud of charcoal dust hovering over the pile.  I started with a rubber mallet, then used a baby sledge, and finally a wood splitting maul.  I'll eventually get it right.....or just buy the activated ready to go stuff.

Thank you for the offer.

I have a Delta dust collector with a thien garbage can pre-separator....uses a 4" hose. I use this with my table saw and miter saws.  I usually just use the shop vacuum on my router table, jig saw, and biscuit joiner.  I don't let either one get too full.

I made several 5 gal separators for the small machines that I use a shop vac with.
