Popular Post DAB Posted February 25, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted February 25, 2019 next big project: install a set of trench drains in front of the garage. the gravel in front is higher than the concrete, so snow melt and rain tend to want to go into the garage (not desired). just peeped the homey depot website, made notes of what i need (about $300 of fun), will try to get them this week, as the wet ground is easy digging now (as compared to when it dries out and becomes like concrete). one trench along the concrete pad, and another trench at 90 degrees to carry the water away to a lower section of the property. sounds like fun, who wants to prove they are a better digger than me?! anyone, Bueller, Bueller, anyone????? ........ sigh. This is a 1/4” bead and probably what I’ll use. The headboard planks are 78” long and will have tenons cut on them to slip into the corners so I’ll cut the tenons, stick them together and cut the bead on a router table and then glue them up. Couple little projects if can get just one day close to 40o w/o 40 mph winds. Sounds like tomorrow may be the only day like that for a week or so. Aside from that, the normal, minimum daily requirements. I diid whack another possum last night; it was still playing dead this PM so I tossed it across the fence across the road. Good actor apparently. Anniversary party tonight...1st Anniversary of my daughter's 39th birthday. 40 years ago by now I was in a fog how to do this...still hasn't cleared up. DAB Posted February 27, 2019 Report Posted February 27, 2019 hmmm....slight glitch: the area where i want to install the trench drain includes 2 corners, one inside, one outside. but....but the maker of the drain channel does not make a corner adapter that i can find locally. (lowes). i found them on their website, at $52 each. yikes. so, since i'll have some leftover trench material, i may try making a corner with a heat weld of the plastic. what could go wrong?!!! Popular Post DAB Posted February 27, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted February 27, 2019 the trench sections did glue up with PVC cement. about 1/2 the trench digging done for the day, more tomorrow. need 2 more small parts, so i'll run a quick errand tomorrow AM, grab them, and then come back and do more digging. this old bod can only do so much per day. day 3 (likely friday) will be the deepest trench, the one for the outflow pipe. only 4" wide, but it has to be deeper and sloped to carry the water that-a-way. sadly, the Lowes clerk didn't show up today. so just me and my doggie. she took a nap inside while i digged. per Clint Eastwood, in Good/Bad/Ugly - only 2 types of people in this world, those with loaded guns, and those who dig. Spent part of the weekend, washing the car, the mailbox and the city sidewalk only to learn today that they are going to replace this sidewalk that my wife and I did in about 1980. At the time, the city didn't want to repair the broken sidewalk and the children were small, so we did it for the children's safety. We didn't know how to do a professional surface, but all the old concrete is buried underneath this layer that is 4+" thick, so you can drive a loaded truck on it without any damages. So, today, the city came by and was checking the sidewalk and said that it is going to be replaced. I have just a little to get washed, but I think I will let it go now. Cleaned a sink drain and got my Shopsmith casters yesterday. So, after a routine doctor visit for the wife tomorrow, I will get out there and replace them. They said they sent a template, but they didn't. A bunch of needless instructions of general warnings of safe operations. A piece of masking tape in line over the previous mounting holes, putting the new casters in the trucks, move it in to position and using a center punch will start the new mounting holes. Last night and today was interrupted by recently installed fire alarms. So, they are disconnected and lying on the couch. A lot of good that is. So, I have to eliminate the problem child and see if it is repairable or tossable. They are only 1 year old from Lowe's and are Firsts Alert with a 10 year lithium battery. Thinking of tossing them and getting those with a regular alkaline battery that I change every 6 months. Oh, and I got the water filter changed in the refrigerator. Big job of about 30 seconds.
