Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

@Warped & Twisted gallery of his Green House build is very interesting. See how Rich built the foundation for this project, and the re-purposed storm doors he and his wife used for the walls of the Green House. Those Alaskans, sure are resourceful!

Community News

Our raffle for the Bassett Family was a success, we want to thank everybody involved and those who contributed funding and treasure to this project. We have a few happy winners of some great prizes and many who walked away with the satisfaction that they contributed to this family and their Christmas Season. As the final proceeds are being sent to the family today, and as we close the books on yet another project for a wounded warrior family, within this week we'll have a publicly displayed disclosure of how the proceeds were used for this project along with some great images of the family, and some images of some beautiful crafts that were sent to us by one of our woodworkers and his wife here, for the Bassett Family. So stay tuned for the final wrap!

One of my latest projects for our wiki is bringing information into our wiki from the out of print book written by Shelley E. Schoonover (U.S. Forester) "American Woods", public domain. I've added a few more pages with some of our favorite softwoods or conifers published in our wiki.

  • Balsam Fir - One of the ten firs native to the United States, is a medium-sized and short-lived tree but an important one, nonetheless, in both the United States and Canada. It is a beautiful, symmetrical, heavily-foliaged tree, doubtless the best shaped evergreen, comparable to the Colorado Blue Spruce. Read more...
  • Bald Cypress - The Baldcypress is a well balanced and attractive, long lived tree which may grow to large size. It is one of the deciduous conifers. It grows on wet stream banks and low land as well as in swamps and attains its largest size in the south. Read more...
  • California Incense Cedar - A well formed tree 75 to 125 feet tall and 18 to 40 inches in diameter. This is the only species of this genus growing in the United States. Read more...
  • Northern White Cedar - A tree of medium size and of slow growth. The tree inhabits swamps and generally grows in such dense stands that its growth is greatly retarded. Read more...
  • Western Red Cedar - A large, long-lived, slow-growing tree of the Pacific northwest. It attains heights of over 200 feet with a trunk diameter up to 16 feet. It has a wide buttressed or “swell butted” base, a long, clear trunk and a narrow, dense, conical crown. Read more...

Phyl's brother and wife from IL are due here today for a 6 day stay. I've been warned to be on my best behavior and wear clean clothes every day. And to NOT disappear into the shop. My tools will get a vacation.

A little unsure about the week.  I know I’m changing out a faucet today for my daughter and SIL but the rest of the week is in limbo.  I need to be working on a mantle for a client but the brother of a good friend died Saturday and our friends are coming in from Virginia and may be staying with us.  Time will tell.

Been in the shop putting things away and making minor repairs updates to some equipment.  Getting ready to get the dust flying again.

My wife and I finally got to go through the various boxes in the garage after the move. So we only have 2 more boxes for Tami to deal with (all of her teacher stuff). So that means I got the green light to buy my new table saw. I will be looking for a Saw Stop contractor with 32" extension. I would be able to order it from Amazon but they would add on $150 for shipping and they could not guaranty that they would be able to deliver it due to the weight. So I contacted the Woodcraft Store in Franklin, TN which is a bit over an hour drive from my house. They were currently out of stock but were placing an order for a number of them. So they took my name and cell number and will contact me when they get their shipment. So hopefully I will hear back from them in the next 7-10 days.

Things have settled down here after the holidays, brought our granddaughter back Saturday after a weeks visit. LOML went back to work Friday with a clean bill of health after being on leave for three months. Glad she is back to her ole self.  Received some proto type attachments for my fasttrack sharpener & was heading to the shop to test them out.

Purchased 2 X 4's today, sanded and cut to length.  Sanded the ends and rounded edges to make seats for a widowed neighbor's picnic table.  Her seats have rotted and need replacing.  Her boys apparently don't know how.  So, this is something I get to do for her.  It is a great feeling and joy to be able to help those in need.

Hey @Allen Worsham - I know when we are ready to buy we are ready to buy...  that said, it seems that Saw Stop has participated in the Woodworking Shows in past years?  I don't know how close you are to any of the shows but if you are close enough it might be worth looking into whether a deal might be had there.
