November 5, 20187 yr The Tormek sharpener came up in a thread a couple days ago. Coincidentally, I got a flyer from Grizzly yesterday. They have a Tormek knockoff. Does anyone have this Griz model? How does it work for you?
November 5, 20187 yr Popular Post I do not. But, I was at the Harrisburg Woodcraft store and they have the newest Tormek (T-8). It is a beauty- much better made than the original (green one) which I bought right after I saw it introduced on "Norm's" show. Never told Mimi how much I paid for that thing!

Does anyone have this Griz model? How does it work for you? I've wondered the same Cal...I've nearly sent an order a couple of times on the 8" but something always came up to over-ride. I've really been curious how well it might work with joiner & planer knives. Hopefully someone here has hands on with either the 8" or 10" Grizz.
November 6, 20187 yr I seem to remember that Buck Nall (Buckeroo) bought one of the Griz sharpeners....maybe I'm not remembering it correctly.

November 6, 20187 yr Or, there is always the quickest way, free hand, and it really is simple to learn, and get really good at. I've adapted free hand sharpening and it's as if a burden of gadgetry had been lifted from me, I have been freed! See my topic below, when I was "Courtland".

November 6, 20187 yr I will say up front that I'm a big believer in buying quality the first time. That comes from learning the hard way and spending money twice. To my way of thinking, if a reputable company is making a product and charging what they need to make a quality product, remain in business, and realize a reasonable profit so be it. If another company pirates the design and brings the product to market for substantially less, there is a reason the copy is cheaper, it's that simple. If you haven't seen it there is a comparison between the Tormek and the Jet version, which is likely a Grizzly clone on JoeWoodworker.com He had a tormek, bought the jet and ended up selling the tormek, but, read the whole review. November 6, 20187 yr started reading commentary on the Grizz.. easy stone wear... soft stone limiting how hard the chisel and iron metal can be.. stone wobble and holder alignment is off... getting everything trued up must be a bear component corrosion... water gets everywhere.. more additional monies for accessories putting the cost up near the Tormek... HEY!!! but it's a great deal... go figure...
November 6, 20187 yr I use my WorkSharp and it does good for me. I don't use hand planes, just chisels once in awhile and they get a mirror finish in less than a minute on the WorkSharp. If I were a turner, which I am not, I would buy Easy Wood Tools and leave the sharpening to them. Just like the saw blades, I let the saw shop sharpen them. Herb
