October 29, 20187 yr Quite a unique piece. Assembling a trailer dolly today. Getting too old to manhandle it, anymore. Then, it's on to mesquite slab flattening for a little end table. Then, (exact date TBD) install the Shelix head in the planer. Maybe, by Thursday, start on a mobile carving station.
October 29, 20187 yr I am working on Christmas presents. I had a couple of people want to pay me for making presents for them. It would be nice to recover the money for wood I use but it obligates me to do it and I don't like that. I don't think I would get orders for things to make if I charged for what I do. I have a niece that wants me to make stuff for her all the time but her and her husband are tight with money altho they have enough money to burn a wet mule.
October 29, 20187 yr Weekend Update: Lots of little tasks marked off the To-Do list (not mine); both days too wet to mow or work outside much. Did spend some time preserving & putting some re-furbed tools away along with starting some others. Week to Come: Busy week with various grand-kid activities. Monthly trip for my-step-dad's eye exam & injection. After the second consecutive weekend of wind & gusts >55 mph, more sticks & debris to harvest, then finish mowing if we get any drying before the next round of rains. Several other outside, winter prep projects too weather permitting. To all: Prepare for your test on Friday. Today stretch your arms and hands out in front of you. Wiggle your fingers to get the blood flowing and loosen up any of the "Ritis Brothers." While your fingers are stretched, count the number of digits on both hands. Give yourself 10 points for each full digit and 5 points or less for each half (or less) digit. Total the count (Hint: 100 would be the likely maximum number). Be prepared for the test on Friday.

Dang Gene, that is a lot for one week.

October 29, 20187 yr Popular Post Over the weekend I helped my nephew on his guitar case. A few weeks back he asked if I could help him build "coffin case" for his guitar. OK, but it might be heavy... That's ok, he is a young strong guy. Pictures found on the interwebs. Selected some pine pallet material just for a more rustic look. Asked about the finish, he wanted to burn it. Burn it I asked? Yep, he seen these videos where a small propane torch was used to just lightly scorch the surface for a more rustic appearance. That was ok with me. I just supplied the shop and a bit of guidance on how to use the tools. The more rustic it looked, the sort of "easier" it might be? So over the course of the last month glue ups, cleanups and scorching was done. Almost completed it yesterday. Have to apply some poly to the gig box lid and attach a piece of belting inside to keep the cover from opening to far. And it is a tad on the heavy side. I told him I wouldn't want to go hitchhiking with it! And that will about do it for any large woodworking projects until likely 2019. After I get the shop cleaned back up and organized this week I plan to bring in the son's car and do some wrenching on it over the winter while I have it here. It needs a couple synchronizers replaced in the transmission and then an electrical glitch chased down, and a few other odds and ends with it. And I also have a large landscaping task going on right now. Likely be towards T'giving before I might get those pics possted up.

I gave that up a few years ago by making a ball mount for the bucket on my Struck Crawler. 27 minutes ago, Grandpadave52 said: Week to Come:To all: Prepare for your test on Friday. October 29, 20187 yr Popular Post Neighbor had some Maple trees taken down. Hated to see that but they were dying a slow death and threatened the wires on the poles. Grabbed some pieces and processed some turning blanks from them. Made a lot of sawdust too.

It's a real surprise to open the rustic lid and see that nice, refined compartment. You guys did a great job.

For some reason the lights I had just don't seem to provide enough illumination as they used to. Also, finished up another little box elder bowl. My sister and her husband were here last week so that means another "church project". Not sure of the practicality of this one. From the picture they supplied, they could buy one for $33!
