Yes. There are many versions of the Unimat and there are other manufacturers too. Finding the on that used that particular piece would be too hare. Parts manuals are not very detailed drawings. I have the lathe to know what it is. I would have to have the lathe or other piece of machinery that used that piece to have proof positive. Here is a sample of a few that are out there. They all have a knob but could easily have a handle installed for more leverage. I did mine when I lost the knob. HARO50, Grandpadave52 and Cal 3 Quote

Popular Post John Morris Posted August 5, 2018 Author Popular Post Report Posted August 5, 2018 I am composing a submittal to MWTCA for @HandyDan research. It looks like the purpose is clear per Dan's research, I am not sure if they are going to get hung up on model and patent etc for this, since IMHO the purpose is universal. As soon as I hear back from MWTCA, you'll all hear back from me! Good luck again Dan! DuckSoup, HandyDan, Grandpadave52 and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Grandpadave52 Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 Congrats @HandyDan on another sleuthing job well done! From John's info above, you solved a "cold case" dating back four years. Ironically it may have even originated in Ohio assuming the Columbus identification? John Morris, HandyDan and DuckSoup 2 1 Quote

I was lucky enough to have a machine that used something similar. If it wasn't for that and being able to put two and two together I would have been lost to what it was too. I guess if enough eyes are laid on an item someone will know what it is. p_toad and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

Some folks wonder how the heck we can ever figure these items out, and that is precisely what the spirit of this project is, get it out there, and if enough eyes see it, perhaps someone will have one lying around, or "I used to see one just like it in Grandpas shop" etc etc. That is our hope! p_toad, HandyDan and Grandpadave52 3 Quote

John Morris Posted August 12, 2018 Author Report Posted August 12, 2018 @HandyDan I don't know if you looked really close at the Dovetail Saw you won, but the first couple inches of the saw blade, is a finer cut, more TPI, than the working part of the blade, the tip of the blade, is finer in order to start a cut cleanly and with ease. Using a dovetail saw, you'll know that sometimes starting the cut can be a PITA, that's because it has a course set of teeth, like the rest of the blade. This is a wonderful addition to a dovetail saw! Dadio, HARO50 and Grandpadave52 3 Quote
