Friday, March 30, 2018, What's On Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Well gang, here it is Good Friday 2018.  We are in the first week of spring and here in Indiana the monsoons are upon us.  Dorothy and I got back Monday from a great trip to Alabama to see my brother in Birmingham and then a few days with John and Beth Moody in Florence, Alabama.  John and I managed to avoid any arrests but we did manage to waste a few hundred rounds at Cypress Creek Gun Range.

As for shop time, I'm finishing up a couple of jewelry boxes that will go into stock for summer shows.  I will apply black flocking to the trays and then they are complete.  As usual, we'll spend Sunday and then head to our son's church where he plays in the praise band.

So, here's the question, "What's on your agenda for this Easter weekend?

Those boxes look awesome!

As for me, drawers for my hardware cabinet and a few other misc. items to do in shop. Probably work on our taxes too.

No shop time for me until Monday. Son and family will be here to night from Tucson. Tomorrow, we're going four wheelin'. We'll need Sunday to rest up. At least, this old man will.

Monday will be all anal cavities and arm joints, though.

Should be a way to post both the heart emoji, and the smiley face emoji.

watched Lake placid...

and now I'm all brushed up on my sarcasm and snarkies...

I'd rather do the boxes than taxes.  I had to use an accountant this year because I had business with a tax exempt school.  Managed to only have to give the state of Indiana $720 this year.

After a two week push to complete 5 angel ornaments, 9 flowers and 3 bowls (finish did not work on one) am taking time out of shop for 10 days to go to visit son in Black Mountain, NC. The product is to go into my DIL store. I will spend my time thinking of new ways to make shavings.

Beautiful boxes Ron. I'll bet those are a hit.

Did a little clean-up and put away today. More of the same tomorrow TBD. Sunday, Easter Services, home for lunch, then weather permitting, I anticipate an egg hunt. Always fun to see how many I'll find in May while mowing. Chocolate usually is not so good; any money goes into my secret stash fund.:P

I did some putting away in the shop and ran across a few rough sawn boards, so ran them thru my new planer and the came out very, very smooth. Can't get over how quiet the planer is.

Good going on the boxes,John, Sure like the extra big cove detail on the side, you are going to have to tell us how you did that. And that panel top trimmed with walnut is the frosting on the cake.

Not much of anything going on, right now.   Sunday, I get to deliver that Pine Stepback Cupboard.....I get a nice cookout meal for it...

Ron, those are some awesome boxes. Love the wood selection AND that tray. Please show us them when you get them flocked. And, your coving process, too.

Herb, looks like you got that planer dialed in. Good looking boards.

finishing up mounting a picture in a picture frame i made of some old pine baseboard we took out some time ago.  and also ripping some 2x8s into 1x2 target sticks for the range.  way cheaper than buying 1x2s.  not very exciting, but that's what i'm up to.

review tax returns tomorrow with the boss.  she loves it (not).  small refunds, roll over to this year's estimated.

Going to get started on a free standing vertical gun rack for a friend. Never made one of these so it should be full of blunders and debauckles!

It's supposed to look something like this-

Looks like it is doing a very nice job...doesn't appear to be any issue with snipe what-so-ever?

@Dadio Ron probably won’t like being called John, but I think it’s funny. :D

I had to work Friday and Ron put the post up for me. So the boxes are his work and maybe he will share the technique.

As for our shop, we got the four shutter doors finished, picked up and on their way to New Orleans.

This morning I’m in the shop getting this Cedar chest glued up that has been sitting since before Christmas. That’s how far behind I am.

picture frame:  going for the rustic look, knots, few old nail holes.  3 coats gloss poly.  picture that my wife has had rolled up and laying around for at least 25 years.

Better late than never^_^

Nicely done DAB...perfect frame for the subject.

I really enjoy old train scenes.

that's the second one that is Alaska railroad related we've done.  many moons ago, she went up there and collected these in her travels.

amazing what you can do with "junk" wood.  little planing, little re-sawing, and you have good stock to work with.  stock with character.  everyone wants "character", until they meet one, then they run away.

Now that most of the snow has melted, I've been able to get out in the yard to remove lots of downed branches . Noticed many trees with broken limbs high off the ground. Looks like I may have to hire some help to take care of that. My tree climbing days have definitely come to an end. I did get into the shop and went thru the motions, making sure the saws are tuned up. Lots of birch has been cut to short lengths.
