Dadio Posted January 6, 2018 Report Posted January 6, 2018 My very first look was whjat Dave said, but I think Bill is on the right track after he explained how it works. Herb Grandpadave52 1 Quote
steven newman Posted January 6, 2018 Report Posted January 6, 2018 Maybe for use with a Halyard? Old time Squid Tool. One end of a line is fixed to a point, then the "running end passes through the dowels/pins/guides, around both sheaves, and through the other guide pins. By pulling the handle down towards you, you raise a point up. Like a small davit/crane. Running line goes up into the required pulleys to help with the lifting. There may have been a latch/loop to secure the tool in place. Cal, Grandpadave52 and HARO50 3 Quote

I was running the darn thing from about 10 or 11 years old. My father could never get it started. I would watch him try and start it until it wore him out. When he gave up, worn out and panting from exhaustion, I would walk up to the saw, hit the primer button twice, set the choke, and it usually started on the second or third pull. I would then walk away...but I never let my father see me snickering as I did! Cal, Dadio, Grandpadave52 and 3 others 6 Quote

schnewj Posted January 6, 2018 Report Posted January 6, 2018 I worked for a couple of brothers that had a logging operation when I was in High School. I used a commercial Homelite when I bucked and ran clean-up and it was a good saw. Heavy, but it never failed to run. Now the Homelite yard equipment is another story...I refused to buy any Homelite with a small gas engine on it. Cal and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
Popular Post Wil Posted January 10, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted January 10, 2018 Yeah, not sure what this is. But it does appear to be some form of tool to twist wire. The handles seem to be more for turning based on where the metal supports are located. Maybe to tighten and secure wire around hay way back when. Obviously, I'm only here for the drawing. Cut like a champ once it got started; wouldn't stop for anything but the brake or out of gas. That is an understatement! Never had to resort to ether, but it was a bear. Once you learned what it wanted it was easy. Ours didn't like being flooded. Like I said, two pushes of the primer, lock the choke and two or three pulls later it fired right up. Don't give it three priming pumps or it was flooded and you had to wait for it to clear. That saw was darn near indestructible and HEAVY. Cal and HARO50 2 Quote
