That is an extra set of bits, but not the same vintage. The paper insert says they are from "Stanley Tools, a division of Stanley Works", which I think makes them newer replacements.

While looking these over and taking pictures, I realized that I don't have a full set of the Millers Falls bits. I'm missing the #2 - 5/64"

Yeah, I only have one full set that was in the index of the 100. I have 3 or 4 loose but all larger sizes.

Miller-Falls seldom show up around here anymore unless an out-of-state vendor shows up at area festival.

Surprising how some tools still fit the need. I always had it in my work truck, seemed like me batteries on the cordlesse always ran out just about at end of task, but needed one more hole.

I rarely see them here in antique or sales joints.

nice to see some oldies, thanks for sharing

Welcome to The Patriot Woodowrker Van. Humbled + pleased to hear this post helped out. Looking forward to your on-going participation here. Great Groupon folks here.  Finding one in original box + receipt is a major score. Good on you.

I have a passion (some call it an addiction...my wife perhaps) for these old tools. I've picked up a few more of various manufacturers since this post 1st "aired". Still trying to get them all refurbished. It would be cool if they could tell their history.

Hey guys.  Responding so this thread is bookmarked for later.  I have a MF 100 that is jammed, probably going to need guidance when i finally get around to starting on it.  Working on a Fray & Pigg brace and a MF 502 brace at the moment.

Pleased to know you found this thread helpful. I'm no expert but have done several types including the MF 100. Looking forward to your refurb. Be glad to help any way I can.

Hey Gramps … what’s the first step in taking the drill apart?  What comes off first?

Give me a day or so Ed to refresh my brain and the weather to improve a bit. It's been a couple years since I last disassembled one. I have one mostly disassembled waiting to be refurbished. I'll update this thread with a step-by-step method I've used. Thanks for asking and your trust.

Ok, started on mine.  I used 2 pliers with leather pads in the jaws to unscrew the red barrel from the silver nose.   The initial problem i had was … the ring with the drill sizes as loose, but the cap wouldn’t turn, so i couldn’t get the bits out.

Once i broke it loose, it unscrewed pretty easily.  When i got to the ends of the threads, the spring and wood plunger shot out.  Fortunately i found everything.

There were 8 bits in the handle, all seem in good condition.

The current problem is … i can’t get the chuck collar off the shaft.   It’s unscrewed all the way, and loose on the end of the shaft, but won’t come off.  There is a pin through the end of the shaft, that won’t come out either. I have smacked it from both sides with a drift pin, but it won’t budge.

Sorry Ed for my lapse getting you information. You've made excellent progress. On the right track for the chuck. Unscrew it all the way. It's held onto the end of the shaft by a small internal spring wire retainer.  I've used an open end wrench that fits over the shaft but will cover the end of the chuck. Light taps with a small ball pein will usually force the chuck off the shaft.

The chuck jaws are two piece and held in place by the spring wire retainer which fits in a groove at the bottom end of the shaft. One end of the spring wire retainer is bent which locates in a hole so look for the open end to remove ("wind") out of the groove. One removed, the chuck jaws can be removed.

I got the chuck collar off … i just pulled harder.  Got it cleaned up, ready to go back together.

How do i get the jaws out of the shaft?   What do you do with this pin …?

Sorry Ed. Been occupied.

The chuck is 2 well 3 pieces. Don't hammer on the "pin." It's actually a raised boss. Each chuck half has one which indexes them in the shaft.

Between each half is a small spring IIRC which sits in a recess; that provides pressure between jaw halves to retain them in shaft.

Might try a pair of pliers like these to compress at locating pin to remove. Just enough clearance to do so IF jaws are thoroughly cleaned. Any build up of oil/ debris is enough to prevent full compression of spring. I'm still working on one shown in bottom of pic.

Top someone had apart before. Spring was destroyed.

Huh. Ok, i’ll look for a pair of those.  I tried all kinds of ways to depress the pins, didn’t work.  Fortunately i stopped before i damaged anything.  I have the drill all cleaned up, unfortunately i buffed off most of the nickel plating on the shaft.  If i can get the jaws out, i will replate it.

Not working.  I have tried depressing one pin at a time, and both.   I can see that the pins & jaws are “loose” … they move just a bit.  But not enough to pull the jaws out.

Sorry missed this and your PM. Just responded to it. I'll take another look at mine.

Hey gramps … this drill has taken a back seat to life, just getting back to it.  I bought a second drill so now i can get a little aggressive.
After quite a struggle to get the jaws out, i gave up.  I have now sacrificed one of the drills … i cut the end off.  Here are pictures.  If you look carefully into the cut off end, you can see two tails of some kind of loose hairpin clip.  It flops from side to side, so there’s no pressure on it.  And you can see the thickness of the barrel sides, theres no way the pins can be depressed enough to pull the jaws out.  Looks like the clip has to come out.  Looking in the center of the 3rd picture, you can see a couple of coils of a spring that keep the clip expanded.

My guess is that they inserted the 2 jaw pieces into the barrel in a compressed or joined configuration, then somehow pushed the clip in between them to force the pins into the side holes.  This is my guesstimate of how the clip is aligned.   I’m going to further “explore” the piece to see what it would take to remove the clip from the front without causing damage.  When i get time …
