'Rack Saw-bench with Self-acting Top' Circular saw ripping sawbench. The saw in this case remains fixed, but the sliding table moves past it on rollers, carrying the log with it. Note the lack of splitter, not unusual for this period. By Andy Dingley (scanner) - Scan from Ednie, John (editor) (1925) Carpentry and Joinery, Carpentry and Joinery, vol. September 18, 20178 yr Bet that blade made a real "whirring" noise. Flipped the coin lots of times, but managed to postpone mowing Fri-Sun. When the grass makes a crunching sound while walking over it, probably shouldn't mow. I was fearful if I hit a rock, sparks would fly resulting in a prairie fire. Various chauffeur services provided for grand-daughters; I managed to get a a couple block planes in the "dip" tank and are in process flattening and honing the soles. A few other rust relics are progressing in various stages. At home Volleyball match tonight and two on the road this week. After an inch+ of rain last night, mowing will definitely occur once the rain front vacates. Continue on with tool refurbs for something fun to do.
September 18, 20178 yr Panel glue up day. While it dries, I'll try my hand at oval cutting for inlays. Might even do some organizing and sweeping.
September 18, 20178 yr No shop today, 2000 mi from home visiting family in Colorado. Can't wait to get home and start some new projects.

September 18, 20178 yr No shop time this weekend. Traveled over to the coast to visit my dad. We went out to see if we could see any elk. Saturday night went out to dinner with my dad, sister and her family for my niece's birthday. She will be 25 on Wednesday.
September 18, 20178 yr Popular Post Weekend is over and its back to building a walnut cradle. The raised panels are cut and all of the rails and stiles are planed and ready to roll. Probably part of Tuesday will be spend cutting the rails and stiles over the router table.
September 19, 20178 yr Shop was closed today...for once. Sharpened a few toys...er.....TOOLS up. Maybe Tuesday, I can get back to building that Maple Project.... Aren't Mondays supposed to be outlawed?
September 19, 20178 yr Popular Post I finished the Cherry Pistol Case and it has 2" foam in it covered in Black Velvet. It got shipped yesterday to Michigan and should arrive today in time for the presentation on Wednesday night. Today I am starting some small benches we are making for some underprivileged children. Going to get everything cut and ready for them to put them together on Saturday. All pocket hole assemble to make it simple.

Been looking at some foam cutters on Banggod.com.
September 19, 20178 yr My pistol cases are French fitted. I use Kaizen foam from Fast Cap and, their knife. Which is nothing more than a snap off type razor knife. To cut the foam to gross size, a band saw works well.

Since I didn't have the pistol in hand, I didn't cut the foam to fit the pistol. Customer told me they would do that when it got there.
September 19, 20178 yr Popular Post I got the prototype of the small bench we are building as a mission project. We are building 10 and I wanted to do one to show everyone what we were doing. Poplar is the wood of choice and the top is 11" x 20" and it is 18 3/4" tall.

I think I can control the depth better with the knife. cavities for revolvers and some long guns have to be cut at varying depths. Although, kaizen is pretty forgiving. Have not tried it but have not been satisfied with using a blade. If you cut full depth you can then carve that and reinsert.

But, you can also cut to the depth you want and peel out to make the cavity. It's usually not too much of a concern because the foam gets covered with a material. And, no I don't do that. Sub that to an upholstery shop. What issues do you have with using a blade? Edited September 19, 20178 yr by Gene Howe
