Good build but here come some questions.  Why use the walnut on the top and why split up the maple with the walnut strip down the middle?

Why the walnut in the drawer face was the maple too short or the sides too wide?

I believe it all come down to preference and no offense is intended I am just asking why.

Like others said I like the exposed dove tails especially with the maple sides really shows them off.

I was amazed to see what a little finish does it really brought the peice to life.

Michael, I'll let Steven answer specifically, but there is another thread detailing from the start until this thread about the project you might have missed.

It should answer most of your questions.

Board for the top wasn't wide enough, nor long enough...About the only way was to split it down the middle, and spread it out a bit, and add a strip on the edges.

Walnut on drawer fronts, were due to a few "complaints"   about exposed dovetails showing.    Did not feel like doing half-blind dovetailed fronts.....I seem to prefer through dovetails.

Will try to get a couple more coats of the shellac on, and see how it looks, and then the gloss varnish if needed.....

Great Job Steve! Loved following this build from start to "finish"
