July 3, 20178 yr First @John Morris...I don't recall getting an email newsletter before, but I did this time. What an awesome idea and it could not have been more appropriate for the occasion. Well done, well written and THANK-YOU for the extra personal touch giving of your time to do this! Second and even more important, THANK-YOU to all who have served and are serving our nation protecting the freedom and independence our Founding Fathers so bravely and proudly stood for and proclaimed 241 years ago. All of you are why we can enjoy not only this site, but enjoy & celebrate (or not) tomorrow. Least important, I basically got squat done in the shop over the weekend. Starter rope broke in the tiller last night; fortunately had just bought some 3/16" dia. nylon rope so I got that fixed this AM. Nursed the tiller through final passes in the garden (think the exhaust valve is burning out)...getting ready to get a late garden planted in about an hour. It's hot out there! Ran a lot of errands yesterday after church and lunch at our favorite Hispanic restaurant (best food any side of any border!!). Oh yeah, jealous of where @Ron Dudelston& @John Moody are "holed-up" for the week. Remainder of the week is focusing on helping grand-kids on various 4-H projects...Did a little of that Saturday...no doubt will have to find some time to start mowing again too.

July 3, 20178 yr Normal Monday...meh Tried to joint a few edges..got four done, gave up. Waiting on Friday, then a load of these boards will get hauled to a friend of mine's barn. My old electric planer resides there. Need to plane them down to about 3/4" thick. There will also be one board at 1/2"...box project. Desk AND the box are to be delivered on the same day. Pastor and a friend will get a BIG surprise... Have started the Doggy Door install....about normal for a Monday. 8 round trips to the shop from the Dinning Room Table. Bottom is now closed off, except where the door will go. Need to try and find the old Sabre saw,,,,,have a bit of excess to cut off the door. need to cut and add fillers from the outside around the DD opening. tain't going to be Fine Furniture...just a screen door. Will be painted, too.

July 4, 20178 yr Popular Post We spent a little time here in the smokies looking for a new get away cabin. this one needed a little too much work. But we likes the location.
July 4, 20178 yr Popular Post Well folks, here we are on the 2017 version of Independence Day. So far, we haven't seen any bears but one set off the security cameras here at the house. However, here is the view that John and I are seeing as we sit at the couch looking east this July 4th morning.

July 4, 20178 yr Popular Post Just got home from a few days of fun in Flagstaff. Nice and cool at 7500 elevation. Amazing what 1500 feet higher feels like. Some of Phyl's family will descend on us over the next few days. Then Saturday we all head for Lake Powell for two days. Then, its on to the north rim of the Grand Canyon for two days. We'll be home sometime....I hope.

Looks like you made a stop at the Ephraim Bales homestead...If memory serves me, his cabin was one of the first stops along the Roaring Folks Motor trail? One of the most peaceful, scenic, and enjoyable drives in the Smokey's I think. Gotta' watch out for the deer though as you make the drive. The only time we ever saw bear along the drive was when we were there in late September. We loved that "trail" that it became our tradition to travel it immediately upon arriving in Gatlinburg and always one last trip around before we left the area to return home. 3 hours ago, Ron Dudelston said: Well folks, here we are on the 2017 version of Independence Day. No better view to awaken and see than that is there guys? Thanks for the posts and taking us "flat-landers" along your trip. Another great place to eat is: http://applewoodfarmhouserestaurant.com/ in Pigeon Forge. We first found this place over 30 years ago. At that time, there was almost nothing around it but an actual apple orchard. Also, a fun place to eat is: Mel's Diner-Pigeon Forge ; Our daughter always liked to stop here at least once. They had a great breakfast menu and breaded tenderloins the size of hubcaps
