March 29, 20179 yr Popular Post A long time ago, I did this project for a retail customer. Long story short, they gave up this vendor and needed to move the pieces left in stock. Consumer wanted this look, that wasn't one of the options left in inventory.. Applied a couple of coats of white lacquer, then burnt umber glaze, then clear lacquer. I was as glad to be rid of this mfr as the retailer was. Not my tastes, but "whatever." Before During After. White spots across natural stained top are "dusty wax," another of their specialties that caused all sorts of problems. My wife always said it looked like "Insufficient housecleaning," which I guess was the intent. Dusty wax On Off And another job, same mfr, customer wanted the painted highlights on the front of this armoire, what was originally all stained. Edited March 29, 20179 yr by kmealy
March 29, 20179 yr Well done. Since I've taken over the household cleaning chores I now know what to call that look: not "insufficient cleaning", but "dusty wax".

I learned the flatter the surface the easier it is to clean and when making a night stand etc. make sure the legs are far enough apart that the sweeper will fit between them.

Roy buried some wood in pig manure for a few months to give a "je ne sais quoi"" patina. Nowadays, "barn wood" is all the rage. Either 200 years late or 20 years early.
March 30, 20179 yr Popular Post I've made a few things I wanted to bury in pig manure, but that was after they were completed and it would have been for more than a few months.
