Four plane Rehab pictures ( took an entire day to clean these up)

Rust is gone.  I found a wood replacement knob for the Hercules.  Knuckle cap is a Sargent low angle, sold as a Craftsman

Stanley #9-1/2, and a Millers Falls clone.   The Millers Falls was sold as a Craftsman, as well.    One of them needed a spare eccentric lever.   Had a spare handy...

Yes, they painted the Hercules brand a green colour.     Took awhile, doing one plane at a time....

Sweet....four more rescued from the scrap iron pile...as we both know, Block planes can be addicting...really like that knuckle plane.

Good use of your Monday in the shop...Thanks for the story...

Great job!

Nice work at cleaning those up.

Bonus pictures!   Seems I also had a #80 rust bucket Cabinet Scraper to rehab....

This is after it had come back up from the shop..

sole.JPG.0fae0a9903e8aa44733f53198a606393.JPG

Sole has been sanded smooth and flat. ..

Bolts are cleaned up, bar is shiny again.   cutter is sharpened, with the correct burr.   Cutter had the SW logo, as did the clamp bar..

Macro setting...not the best around.

Just about ready to box all 5 up, and ship them back to their owner....maybe tomorrow?

Woodworking side of things?    Got the second side of the case sitting in the clamps, waiting on Elmer to get done.   Parts have been resawn for the 3 web-frames.   A blank to make the fancy drawer front has been cut to size.....saving that for last.....Film @ 2300 hrs....I hope.

That is a "sweetheart" of a scraper...(pun intended and even on Valentine' Day to boot:D)

Nice restore...even more cool all there and original...I'll find one of them one of these days maybe...

Not sure I'll be up at 2300...if not I'll catch the recap on the morning show...

Just sat down from being in the shop....Mortise and tenon work.   Have three web-frames glued up.    Trying to decide on the kickers...Camera is full, may need new batteries.   Will try to fashion some sort of picture show in a bit....B)

Ok, sitting in my chair, resting up......Have one item still in the clamps.

All the parts were resawn down to make the web-frames with.    3/4" x 1-1/2"  x ...whatever.    The long rails were about~ 21-1/2" or so.   The short ones?   Took two tries to get them right.

Finally, I set up a jig on the bandsaw ( reset it from the resaws)

58a3ab1942de4_tenoncutter.JPG.b93df943a7172411c9a8fee2c134e348.JPG

Marked out where the tenons needed to be.  This was for the "cheek" cuts, about a 1/4" or so.   Once the cheek cuts were done, then a reset to 1/2", and make a stack..

58a3abac5914b_stackofoffcuts.JPG.ffa4bafce3fa03363dcb15c7650720fd.JPG

By doing the shoulder cuts.  Wind up with a few of these things,,....

58a3abff3b018_tenonsdone.JPG.6aabf823ce2f35ed0ac93691f5e40fb4.JPG

Had to clear the bench, as a couple other items were in the way..

58a3ac394cd26_sideframes.JPG.d5f8c02fb1ab5e4b310a4b805e4c672e.JPG

Since the glue has dried in the second one, and I needed those clamps..I stashed them under the bench...

58a3ac91c6415_stashedaway.JPG.c8e9c47bc5625ecee5ff622230451b69.JPG

This is also about where the dresser will go.    Bench is cleared, time for an older jig...

58a3acea05012_mortisejig.JPG.49d4dc46452e471de3aeae113a2f350f.JPG

Three screws hold it to the bench, right over a leg.   Got things ready to go..

58a3ad243f2bd_setup.JPG.a640696b6d61e4f8c5c2485c0bf5984b.JPG

Lets see, saw, chisels, square, Lew's Mallet, and a long rail all marked up for a mortise....After a bit...

58a3ada77d45a_completedmortise.JPG.a6d6294d3023b2ce17e53837f9219742.JPG

To keep things from getting too screwy, I labeled each corner pieces.   Long A goes to Short A, sort of thing...Got the first two frames done, and stashed away..

58a3ae2d5ee3f_framesdone.JPG.a22bd1b677d2c26b93c7667de4dcb8a7.JPG

Came time to do the last of three frames.   There was a problem, though.    I could no longer us the saw to help out, as the tenons were a lot smaller..

58a3ae8e34551_smalltenon.JPG.1745e53107160da8e04f59696de7d0f6.JPG

Which meant I had to dig a hole...

58a3aec0990e1_smallmortise.JPG.c97c125e931479b7707c85285b724027.JPG

And hope the end didn't blow out.   So far, so good..

fitted.JPG.39e26f0b3248e5d46ac5cd62c7c5f3a0.JPG

Then I could glue the third frame up, once all four holes were dug..

58a3af56dba7e_clampedup.JPG.b273427901f3aa5edad20ff204e7b567.JPG

Ever need a third hand to help hold things together long enough  to clamp them up.   Will let this set here awhile.

Was getting a bit wore out, I think I'll do this drawer front thingy another day...

58a3afd7b9c81_drawerfronts.JPG.840617a4e4e9e303d4cf98a2da4d0af5.JPG

I have to match the "existing".   So I need to do a bit of carving...much later.   Blank on top is to look like the drawer front below it.   Fun, right?

Need to figure out the kickers, resaw for some face frame stuff, and figure a top.....Be awhile....stay tuned, the cussing has begun...

Very nice!

Got a lot of cussing done in the shop today.....Got a drawer glued up...

58a4fac396cc3_gluedup.JPG.4ddaa0499233c84a0ac6febfd65dbbd7.JPG

Maybe tomorrow< I can get rid of the clamps..

58a4fb070f819_faceframed.JPG.b6bdf996e17792f5b07884e59753215c.JPG

Dovetailed the ends, and added screws in the middle.   All the clamps were busy.   Test fitted the top drawer..

58a4fb64550a7_testfit.JPG.e6a22c1cc0476e674a306ab8a9787065.JPG

took a few tries.    Dividers are all nailed in place in the drawer.    Decided I had had enough "fun" for the day, and sat the case into it's new home..

58a4fbdda3c8a_setup.JPG.13a5603480cdb1b89f288a88de8b7990.JPG

Need to glue up a wood top for it, and work on the bottom drawer's front.    Circular saw is a "vintage" Skil Home shop saw....about as old as I am..

Had to quit for the day, left arm went numb up to the elbow.   Was a bit hard to see, too.    The TIA is now clearing up, arm is feeling better.   had a couple of those a year ago...Just need a bit of rest, is all.

Good progress...guess this will learn ya' to pick up those curb side treasures making you start a re-purposing project..:P

Suggestion: don't put a top on it and you won't pile stuff on it...

Glad the arm is better...good to quit for the day and give it a rest...I'll be back tomorrow for the next episode of the Dungeon Diaries;)

No top on this thing.....yet.  However, a few other items were finished up.   Drawer came out of the clamps, and the dovetails were cleaned up...

dovetails.JPG.a4b442313622c76d0fbcbbbfe56f3f14.JPG

Keep in mind, this drawer isn't even 3" deep.  Got the drawers to fit into their places..

58a640284621e_drawerfits.JPG.f34cac606046891e796deb2e201850ca.JPG

Face frames were a bit too snug, spokeshave and chisel opened things up.   Speaking of "opening things up"..

round-overs.JPG.13598a30bd6632a34bb2cc2b65bbe05d.JPG

While trying to bandsaw that round-over on the end grain, the blade skipped out, and skipped into a finger.   Barely "notched" the skin.    I had better luck doing a large "Hollow"

hollow.JPG.340595718bd7a1ff19386aa1789bcab7.JPG

A few relief cuts helped out.   The usual toys were brought out..

toys.JPG.42eeca22b98411e506a670cc9e70b805.JPG

Hammer was already out.  Marking gauge to cut a line around, saw to help out.  Chisel to hog out the flats, spokeshave and plane to round things out

Went to Lowes to buy two boards, to make a glued up top.   Picked up some short screws, and two knobs....

done.JPG.1ed8f3293d7d87e3342c8d5d556d4f72.JPG

Forgot about those top dovetails breaking out, will add a molding across the front.   False front on the new drawer is screwed and glued in place to the drawer box.   A pair of knobs were added, to match the knobs above them...almost.   Might just paint all four.

58a642cd1c2b8_loadedupbottomdrawer...JPG.bb772cff466bd4f627600d5a34a7146a.JPG

Loaded up the bottom drawer.    Drawer will need a kicker added, next time I drag this mess out....

58a6432a926fe_toploaded...JPG.8192db1ae4af4e65aeec0c6ab9a785f8.JPG

And the top drawer.   Getting close to being done, I hope.

Looking good Steven...Glad all fingers are still connected and in tact...too close for comfort...

Maybe a curb side tour tomorrow might turn up a top to be re-purposed...

I'll be back same time, same station

" blade skipped out, and skipped into a finger. "

You were going to paint it red anyway, right?  :P

That looks really great!
