A dresser for some chisels?

Found a location to stash those "extra" chisels in...

Located under the bench, in fact.

Right about there.   Had a 1 x 10 x 8' I can cut down, and a few scraps of stuff....Resaw a few crosscuts, and make a few parts..

parts.JPG.7cb5d8906ef859534daa3e51e4a3a165.JPG

One front and two sides for a second drawer, will add the fancy overlay front later.   The rest are four corner posts, and that "square" block is actually 8 rails for the two sides.

Chop a few dovetails, again..

58a0ee0110d44_dovetailedcorner.JPG.71eed5d51232ab52cb283f40f96cf42d.JPG

Then do the other corner

58a0ef3024272_2corners.JPG.08724261bce82ad3873010f3b27ec9ff.JPG

Which left a lot of grooves to make with the Stanley #45, again...except this time...

I decided to cut a few elsewhere.  The sides will be joined in a frame and panel sort of thing.    Needed a groove all around to house the plywoodsides, and the rails

groovy.JPG.76adaf81c4c8e6340bb03daed8f6d551.JPG

Needed to be 1/2" deep.    Takes a while.  Need to do the four corner posts like this, then shift the jig to do 8 rails.  The shift again to plough the grooves for the drawer's bottom panel.

Jigs needed pilot holes...but for some reason, my thumb thought it needed one too.  Will get back to "ploughing" after supper.....might take awhile to do...stay tuned to this batty channel...

" my thumb thought it needed one too "

Somehow that doesn't sound quite right.   hope you're ok.

Lucky it wasn't a sharper bit.    Was just  enough to make a cut.....no hole.

I guess THAT's something to be thankful for!

Only when stitches are in order...

Will you be able to find these chisels now Steven since they will be organized and stowed away?

Nice job so far...as always I enjoy seeing what comes from Single Cell Sketch Up 1.0 & the Dungeon Diaries...:D keeps me motivated and full of ideas in case good weather ever returns to Indiana...

Edit add: BTW...pretty sure "blood letting" is no longer legal in Ohio...

That stuff is great! Put a knife blade into my left wrist a few years ago.... doc glued it rather than stitch it.  Can't even tell where it was any more.

John

FWIW... Never use sharp tools when having an insulin reaction.

Ouch!

That is an awesome start!

I put a drill bit into my finger about 10 years ago. The bad part was having to reverse the drill to get it out:wacko:

Ok, after a break from the action down in the shop, snuck back down to do a wee bit more.....

58a11ce47cd94_45groover.JPG.9d48a47067568cc9c09b84fa8976f16a.JPG

Getting the long stiles grooved was easy, just hold them between dogs.    The short rails were a different matter.  In order to get the plane to work like this....

58a11d7ed3892_groovyjig.JPG.174088613be0b962f4acd9b4fc347182.JPG

I had to add a couple blocks, one for the vise to tighten with.   I had to notch the jig's jaws a bit, to allow the 45's fence to go by.   A few taps with a hammer to set things into line.

Groove is offset a bit, to the outside.  The square is to double check the depth stops..

58a11e46227d7_depthchecking.JPG.805123df2eead5166960aadfd7a7524f.JPG

Close enough.  Two of these get a single groove, another gets a groove on each edge.  Once I had these grooves done, I could cut a few tenons, and try things for size, as I needed to cut some plywood panels to fit..

58a11ed98526a_testfit.JPG.f81c00d55948dec61a4cb23a25ee1c6e.JPG

Something like this.   Then some clamps and glue, and a few nails..

58a11f22466f7_glueup.JPG.99903b8010bc40269b65fc9295c8789b.JPG

Then set this mess aside..

58a11f67626c1_sidesgrooved.JPG.b63906634c99e1afd20eb5a892944e27.JPG

As I needed to get these done, while the 45 was set up.   Instead of 1/2" deep, I changed back to 3/8" deep.  Again, the long front piece was easy to do, it was these short ones that were "fun"

Got the sides and the front grooved for a plywood bottom, but needed a dado in the back..

dado.JPG.0fff81d18ad8a610ebc3bef1e1f8fcf3.JPG

Changed the cutter to match the thickness of the back.   More jig work.  Then a test fit..

58a1206dd7b21_messybench.JPG.0a61e6bb509a21e03994fdeaf3af08d0.JPG

Back is about 1/2" thick ( more room in the drawer that way) Got the other side done, and put things together..

58a120c4dbf2b_dryfit.JPG.eb81513412ef9865a82d9f7b54a7cb36.JPG

So I could cut a plywood panel for it.  Panel is cut, and will need a bit of fine tuning.   Might be up for glue, tomorrow?

The reason for them long legs?   They have to fit over the bench's stretcher.    maybe tomorrow, I can have the other side into the clamps, and start on the web frames for the two drawers to slide on?    Might see about copying the front of the older drawer?  Maybe a back installed?   and work on the top?....Much to do, little time to do it....stay tuned...

Due to it being Monday, the Wood working part of the shop is shut down. ;) However, the Rehab Center is open and in use.   A friend sent me 4 block planes and a #80 scraper plane to clean up, and return to him....After the errands were run today, and the mail carrier dropped off the box....spent a bit of time getting two of the block planes done.   Debating on doing the other two tonight, or wait until  tomorrow....we'll see.   Yes, there will be pictures when they are done....the "Before" was just too ugly to risk the lens of the camera on...

ok, just stop with all the slice and dice injuries...   it's bad enough when i do that to myself (repeatedly over the years), but you don't have to follow my lead!:o
