December 14, 20169 yr Popular Post Posted a while back showing some walnut I was working into bowl blanks. With Christmas requests and some other distractions I'm just now getting time to start making bowls. Most of them will be natural edge as that shows the crotch grain so much better. Most of that gets turned away in a normal bowl. This is the fourth bowl so far. Still will need to dry for a couple weeks and then get remounted, sanded, and finish the bottom. Picture doesn't show it well but there is some great grain in the bottom of this bowl. It's gonna be a pretty thing. It does make a mess though. Steve
December 14, 20169 yr Well, at least standing on all of those shavings/chips will be comfortable on your feet! BTW, that is an awesome looking bowl.
December 14, 20169 yr Best excuse for a messy shop I heard in a long time. Mine is always messy. Why? Because. Got no real excuse. Nice bowl!!
December 15, 20169 yr I regularly clean mine. It lasts until I pick up the first router, drill, or do something on the planer, table saw, drill press or sander.

I sealed it with shellac and it's in a paper bag for a couple weeks. That thickness and slow drying, it should be fine. If not, that's character. Turning to finish green to 1/2" or less is pretty safe. Steve
