Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworker's!

I must admit I woke up rough this morning, not so ready to attack the week with the abundance of enthusiasm I typically have. Just one of those day's! I didn't even feel like putting one foot off my bed onto the floor, but, the world moves on so shall we!

This weekend I was able to jump into the shop and make some progress on some plaques I am making for our daughters high school veterans support club. I got them cut, edges beveled, and sanded to 150. I'll spend a few hours on them this week after work getting them sanded to 600 in prep for some wipe on finish.

I did not think about how much work this was going to be, it's an easy project, cut squares, bevel the edges, but it's the repetition of work that is really time consuming on the projects like this. The sanding is the most time intensive part of this event.

Each one will have a service branch medallion applied at the top half and the a name plate with a special message to the veteran the club is honoring.

So, that was my Saturday, Sunday I rested.

How about you all, what is on your work week agenda in the shop! Have a wonderful week ahead folks, and thanks so much for being here on our community forum.

Good morning John!

I just got down to the Starbucks in Yorba Linda and fired up my computer. The first week of every month I have to get my 3 allergy shots done. So since I have to travel our lovely "91 Freeway" to get there and it is an ugly drive. So I get up at 4:15-4:30am and roll out of the driveway so that I can navigate my way on surface streets to get to the freeway and avoid the ugliness of the 15/91 interchange. So I was able to to drive full speed which makes my life much easier with far less "Road Rage".

I have been working on our Master Closet renovation and got installed 4 large units along the 10' long back wall which worked out great. I also picked up an open unit from Sam's Club that matches the wall units that has 8 square cubbies with some canvas baskets which will be used for additional storage for things like socks, underwear and sweaters. After I get done with my allergy shots I will have breakfast and then go back to the Ikea store and get 1 more of the large wall units to go into the closet which should finish it off with the exception of some additional wall hangers for some things as well as doing some patch and paint on the walls.

As for "Wood Working" I have a number of maple boards sitting on top of my table saw to make into a large cutting board for a friend from church. He wanted one that was a larger and thicker than my typical cutting boards that has a routed blood groove around the top of one side. He wants it for when he cooks a large chunk of meat for family gatherings and carves it and not have the juice getting all over the counter. I had hoped to get it done for him in February, but things got in the way. He keeps asking me about it each Sunday at church and I keep telling him that the wood is "Acclimating" in the shop so that it won't split or crack. ;-)

Tuning up 24 tenons all last weekend. They all fit now. Well, that's the chairs. The ottomans have yet to be cut.

Today is a trip into town to meet with the lawyer who's drawing up our will and stuff. Then I can start final assembly of the chairs.

Thursday I have to go to Scottsdale (95 miles, but no free ways) for an MRI and then another place for a CT scan. Hopefully, They can schedule the 5 days radiation treatments after the scans.

We decided to go from Scottsdale to Tucson (75 miles on rt. 10) to visit with out kids and families for the weekend. Plus make a Costco run. Then home again on Sunday.

So, it looks like time in the shop will be precious for the next few weeks or so. Then in mid April, I'm flying to MS. for a few days, then in late May we drive to VA for a wedding, with a trip to DC and Gettysburg in the mix. On the way back, we'll stop in IL for a class reunion. There goes another few weeks or a month. Some day, I'll get those chairs done.

Gene, if you get to Gettysburg before May 26, let me know, we'll meet for coffee!

The kitchen island/table is progressing. The two shelves are glued up but need to be sized, sanded/scraped and chamfered edges cut.

Lew, That would be great. The wedding is 5/21. Then a trip to DC for a couple days. So, 5/26 may be pretty tight but we'll try to be there by then.

You know, sometimes I wonder about you "retired" guys, many of you seem busier retired than you may have been at work! I hope things slow down for ya soon Gene.

I may have missed it in prior topics Lew, who is the kitchen island for, you guys or customer?

Well congratulations John! I am in the same area, I'd love to meet ya for a hand shake, we are pretty slammed this weekend, we have two out of town universities to visit that our daughter has been accepted too. That being said, the last thing you'd want to do is take time away from your honeymoon to meet me! If you need any tips or directions to dining and or sites to see while your here please let me know.
