I found this a very interesting read, hope you enjoy it too. Teddy Sheean The painting by artist Dale Marsh that captures Teddy Sheean's valour in Armidale's final moments. He was later awarded the Victoria Cross. Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean was born on 28 December 1923 at Lower Barrington, Tasmania, fourteenth child of James Sheean, labourer, and his wife Mary Jane, née Broomhall. Soon afterwards the family moved to Latrobe. Teddy was educated at the local Catholic school. Five foot 8½ inches (174cm) tall and well built, he took casual work on farms between Latrobe and Merseylea. In Hobart on 21 April 1941 he enlisted in the Royal Australian …

I was going through some papers in a box of my Army stuff a few weeks ago, looking for my DD214 for my HR at work. I came across this. My father typed this up for me, then cut it out of the sheet, and sent it to me when I was stationed in Panama. Many feelings still come to me when I read this, not only for the beautiful message a poet wrote about my Lord, but the reason why my dad was compelled to send this to me at that particular time of my life. I should mount this on a beautiful piece of wood and hang it on a wall. Maybe. When I'm ready. I still have the typewriter he used to copy this poem to a sheet of paper. For now though it'll go back in the b…

Greetings! I'm very new to the forum, currently active duty and soon to retire. Hoping to leverage my G.I. Bill to build some additional skills before tackling some interior joinery projects on our little 40-year old sailboat. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on schools and courses that aren't just money mills looking to milk my G.I. Bill but will really provide some worthwhile instruction? Thank you for the help! Mike

"Born Christian Ludolf Ebsen, Jr. on April 2, 1908 in Belleville, Illinois, Buddy’s family moved to Orlando, Florida in 1920 where his father became the manager of a dance studio and it was in this dance studio that Buddy learned to dance. Initially after graduating high school in 1926, he attended college with the intention of entering into a career in medicine, but family financial troubles soon after put an end to those dreams and he was forced to drop out of college. In search of a career, he moved to New York City in 1928 in order to try his luck as a dancer." "In 1936, he got a chance to dance with America’s sweetheart, Shirley Temple, in “Captain Januar…

I saw this Reddit post about a guy who found a Woodland Combat Jacket after a long time of searching. I myself recently acquired a Desert Combat Jacket, and would love to complete the duo of having both types. Apparently their fairly rare, so anyone selling or who could help with where to find one would be much appreciated.
