December 23, 20169 yr I have the parts. This is my first spindle turning project. A warm up for my shaker rockers and chairs. Not much right now. Legs to the right, rungs in the center, and four fails on the left. I used some of this 10/4 cherry to get the parts from. The parts pre turned. Right now I'm building a small drill press jig to bore the rung holes into the legs with. I'll check in later!
December 23, 20169 yr Popular Post A Sine Plate jig will work for all of your chairs, as the angles will probably change between styles. With this you can set up an infinite number of compound angles.

I could think of many projects something like that would work well for. But, I like dedicated jigs, for one purpose only. No moving parts, and no thought needed to operate them, and I need plenty of "no thought" in my shop! Seriously though, I have learned that if I stick with dedicated jigs for one purpose, even if it's just to drill one angle, I am better off for it.

December 24, 20169 yr Author Popular Post Well I got a pre glue up stool here. I am happy with it. Ready too glue now. Soon we'll have a few coats of oil on it and a tape seat
December 24, 20169 yr Well, as Staples used to say, "That Was Easy" Looks great so for...keep the project coming... BTW, don't forget the Maker Story tucked away in the seat weaving...

I really enjoy making this, this was a really fun. I'll do another then I should be ready for a full size rocker. The only thing I am not sure about, is the shouldered tenons, they look unsightly to me, but then the originals were the same way, I guess if the Shakers didn't mind them I should not.

December 30, 20169 yr Looking really good John. Interesting following along. I like the idea of the thread tucked away in the weaving.
