Actually the stools are just a warm up to the chairs. This is where I am heading with this once I get my turning skills honed a bit further. Right now I am shopping for seat tape for the stool(s). Once I get beyond a few stools then on to the chairs I'll incorporate sculpted rockers into the legs adding my own design elements to an already classic design. The chair below is one of many styles I am gearing up for. I love these chairs. Once I get the stools looking good, the rest is down to the ladder backs and how they are constructed and mastering those. All these chairs in their most basic form are stools (as you see the one I built), with a ladder back, and often some arms. Source: Rocking Chair by Kerry Pierce Source: Side chair by Kerry Pierce

December 30, 20169 yr My Grandmother had chairs built like this except on hers the front posts came up to a round over , almost a point. The build looks great but reminds me of why I did not like this style......It is like sitting between two walls as the side rails are higher than the front. John a multicolor weave would look good on this.
December 30, 20169 yr I think I mentioned this before (I suffer from CRS) but those rockers look a lot like the ones that were made by one of Mom's early relatives. Frederick Stottlemyer and his son Christopher Stottlemyer.

No doubt Lew, it's not a unique style, it's been copied the world over, although the chairs your family made in some ways departed from the traditional shaker it appears, but yep, the similarity is glaring.
December 31, 20169 yr There are probably other places and even cheaper, but you might check out the gift shop at the Pleasant Hill Shaker Village. I believe when we were there they sold it.

I think it will look wonderful with the dark cherry. I will indeed though take a look at Pleasant Hill Shaker Village, thanks for the heads-up.
