John Morris Posted December 23, 2016 Report Posted December 23, 2016 I have the parts. This is my first spindle turning project. A warm up for my shaker rockers and chairs. Not much right now. Legs to the right, rungs in the center, and four fails on the left. I used some of this 10/4 cherry to get the parts from. The parts pre turned. Right now I'm building a small drill press jig to bore the rung holes into the legs with. I'll check in later! John Moody, HARO50, DuckSoup and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post lew Posted December 23, 2016 Popular Post Report Posted December 23, 2016 A Sine Plate jig will work for all of your chairs, as the angles will probably change between styles. With this you can set up an infinite number of compound angles. DuckSoup, John Moody, Dadio and 3 others 6 Quote

Lew, I love that jig you have. I could think of many projects something like that would work well for. But, I like dedicated jigs, for one purpose only. No moving parts, and no thought needed to operate them, and I need plenty of "no thought" in my shop! Seriously though, I have learned that if I stick with dedicated jigs for one purpose, even if it's just to drill one angle, I am better off for it. Grandpadave52 and lew 2 Quote

Thanks for the reminder Dave! I really enjoy making this, this was a really fun. I'll do another then I should be ready for a full size rocker. The only thing I am not sure about, is the shouldered tenons, they look unsightly to me, but then the originals were the same way, I guess if the Shakers didn't mind them I should not.
