I'm from Ohio and I wondered why I have never heard of any one using Buckeye wood in any project. George Washington loved the tree because of the flowers. Of course there are the Ohio State Buckeyes. After a bit of research I quickly found out that the way Michigan Wolverines describes a buckeye is true. "a poisonous nut on a worthless tree"

I was contacted by a Navy buddy about his wooden hand plane. He was interested in what it might be worth. I know it is difficult to say without a detailed description and hands on. Here is what I know- About 28" long Blade is stamped with Thomas Firth and sons The body has a stamp of W. Hoger- he said this is very hard to read He sent me these 2 pix- Any information and help will be greatly appreciated. Lew

A friend has a used, but not too old Craftsman Commercial table saw he wants to get rid of. Questions: 1) Is this a decent saw and not one of these with pot-metal bearings and such? 2) if so, what would be a fair price for it. Looks kind of like this:

I bought a dovetail jig a few years ago, called a "Universal Joiner" It looked really easy and powerful in the demo. When I tried to use it, I got a headache. I even went to an all-day class in it. So now, I have a 100 page manual full of charts and options, class notes, and a cheat-sheet I made during the three days I spent trying to figure it out. It's one of those things that has so many options, I think it takes a PhD in mechanical engineering to be able to use it. There are so many degrees of freedom, each one gives you a chance to mess up. A local CL ad has a Zyliss aluminum vice made in Switzerland complete and in excellent condition for $110.00. I have no idea what it would normally sell for. It looks like it would be useful for my gunsmithing hobby. Any opinions much appreciated.
