Zyliss Vice

Featured Replies

A local CL ad has a Zyliss aluminum vice made in Switzerland complete and in excellent condition for $110.00. I have no idea what it would normally sell for. It looks like it would be useful for my gunsmithing hobby. Any opinions much appreciated.

I bought my first one in 1965 at the State Fair, for $65. to pack in my tool box on the job. Then later at home. I have one in my shop now and use it constantly.

There are a lot of jobs that require more than a WW bench vise and it is so versatile. When I was making cabriole legs I used the centers attachment and it worked great. If you are doing gun stock work it should be handy.  I do light metal work on it too. I like the feature of turning it over and it is flush with the work surface on the bench for sanding  or planing. Also can be extended out to any length for clamping long projects. I once clamped a 20' long set of cabinets with it  mounted on a long 2X4. I would say it was the most versatile tool I have ever owned. When not in use it can be stored under the bench or in a drawer. It can be mounted most anywhere, LH, RH side, sawhorse, to a board,, work bench, deck railing , tailgate,Etc.

Thanks to all for your input. The guy came down to $90 and I will pick it up tomorrow.

they are handy and once you start using it you will know. I have two of them and I never store them in the same place so I am more apt to find at least one.

You wont be sorry.

I have two of them, picked up both at garage sales for cheap. I don't use one daily but there are times the zyliss is just the best vice you can have. I'm thinking they are something over $300 new.
