This is a Shaker style Lap Desk that I made for my eldest grandson. It has a pencil trough slot at the top (zoom in). The Lid has a brass flap stay on the left and brass hinges. The grain is awesome! Zoom in and look! It has bread board ends. .... and hand cut dovetailed corners. Thanks for looking! Cheers!! MrRick

Had 3 planks IN the shop....decided to trim them down to size... Cut the bad, Barky board down a bit..from both ends.. Which left.. This much "good" wood...not keeping the barky stuff.. Set this aside, for a moment...the other 2 planks had some spalting going on...cross cut to get the most..and set the rest aside.. All 3 now needed the rip fence set up...to dress up both edges....The 2 plain jane sections also were edged.. Along with a few scraps from the last Project.. So, MAYBE a Lap Desk in there, somewhere? Have a parts list of pieces to choose from...depends on how fancy to make the lid/writing surface... Well, it IS a start....just that amount of milling..and the toes started to cramp up...while I am on Laundry Detail, this evening... Stay tuned..

A look inside, showing off the curly grain on the lid. Dividers seperate the inside. Back area can be for books. There are spaces for pens/pencils in the front. Plywood bottom is Oak. Sits in 1/4"x1/4" grooves all the way around.- 2 comments

Can also be a Kitchen Office. Hand cut dovetails in the front corners, simple rebate glue joint in back. Lid has a few large knots, decided to "feature" them. Back edge has a live edge, and Walnut plugs cover the five scews that hold the non-folding part of the lid still. Four coats of oil finish...so far.
