Sycamores are always dropping limbs and the limbs are almost always gnarly, misshapen, and often spalted before they ever hit the ground. In other words, they are ideal for turning little rustic birdhouse ornaments.

Just finished up a few birdhouse Christmas ornaments Assorted woods, these are always popular. Also, we had a lilac bush that was dying out, finally decided to pull it a couple weeks ago. I had never turned lilac so I put a little piece on the lathe and turned a quick little mushroom. Really nice wood to turn, the sapwood is almost white but the heart wood is really pretty with lots of color, kind of reminds me of marble.

Thought I might as well get started making some birdhouse ornaments. I had an idea to use the laser for embellishing on some of them. Took me 4 or 5 attempts to figure out how to use the rotary chuck but right I'm loving it! Body is maple, top and bottom are sycamore.
