Decided on a bit of "Me Time" a while back....and drove down to Springfield, OH. to raid a couple places....One was "Heart of Ohio Antique Center" out in Harmony, OH. Cheap saw was $50? the other was $80..pass Red circled item..A Stanley No. 46....@$35? there was only 4 parts to it...no cutters, no front knob, no depth stops... Iron #7? $125 ? it was missing at least 2-3inches off the back end...and I did not need any woodies.. Passed on these 3..as well...already had a few IN my shop..however.. There WAS one I did NOT have in the shop... This is the "Fabled" Stanley No. 4-1/2c, type 11.....I knew about another in another stall...for $125! This one? Only $80....sold! Walking around to a few other stalls....One Rule: If'n it is in a LOCKED glass case... it is because it is priced way to high...talking gold plated, here....the "Complete Stanley No. 45? well the first of three numbers on the price tag was a 3..then a 4 then a 5...about 4 times what I paid for the one just like it. I did buy this 3 pc set of Plough plane irons...$15 seemed to be about right....walked around some more.. $3 for 3 Gimlet drills..one even goes into a brace drill...about shopped out at the first place...drove down to Titus Rd off of US 40...."Springfield Antiques" on the sign....LONG aisle to walk up and down...Found a drill.. Already have one...I think they want $35 for this one? Same stall... Same price, too...pass....in the center of this stall... Kind of a "grab bag"? There was an item... Not by North Bros., nor by Stanley..this is a Jordan, from Germany...and they never add a return spring...$4.. Total for today? $102 counting tax. Figured that will do for today. Did not need any of these....and.. These were above MY payscale.... Not too bad of a day...?

Well here I go, time for me to build a new PC. But being the way I am, I can't build anything that's quite normal. Doe's anyone remember the Silver Boxes I found awhile back? I knew when I picked them up I'd have to come up with a good use for them, but what? Well here we go with what will become of the first one. I'll be using the one on the left which I have spent the past few days hand sanding the old finish off. Why? I like hand sanding, and I'm not totally refinishing the inside of the box to try and save the liner. Here is how the box looks so far. I've removed, and saved the liner for future reinstallation in the box. Here are a couple of photos of the box lid. This one shows the liner which will be a real pain to remove any further. This photo shows the original finish. Sorry about the bad picture but it shows how bad the finish was. The below photo shows some of the hardware which will be going into the build. I'll be using an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G 3.9 Max Boost, 3.6 GHz. Base, 4 Core 8 Thread Processor with Radeon RX Vega Graphics, along with a MSI B450M PRO-M2 Motherboard, a Samsung V-NAND SSD 970 EVO NVMe 250 GB M.2 Hard Drive for the OS, and 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz Memory, along with a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda 32 MB Cache 7200 RPM Hard Drive for storage. But since this is all that I've got to work with, Hopefully this rig should satisfy my needs.

A fellow that was not only a farmer, but worked to restore farm items, and also fixed up and sold cars and trucks....was having an "Estate Sale/Auction today... Located on a hilltop, over-looking the Great Miami River in DeGraff, OH. Parking was....the usual...found an old farm lane to a house that USED to be on the property ( along with a dozen other people) and parked the van.....found out I was only half way up the hill....to get TO the auction, I had to "take the high ground" ....Number on my bidding card was almost 400 ( 398!) walked around awhile....found a pile of saws laying on the wet grass. Had to stand my ground, as others were walking through and OVER things. Almost needed a flak vest and steel toed boots! Wind was a steady 20mph, and it was about 40 degrees out...two Auctioneers were going at the same time, different areas. Whew, They finally made their way to where I was standing firm....He "packaged the 11 saws into a single item...then I got into a bidding war....for the wet and rusty saws.....won it @ $20! sheesh! Some of the saws were prunning saw (2) and there were the usual "Meat saws" (4) decided I didn't need those, so I tossed them back into the auction. Then it was off to find a few yard sales, and raid a couple Antique stores...meh...very slim pickens....The place up in Huntsville, OH has the "Junk in the Box" dug around there a bit, and found two whole items...WOW! That little Handyman eggbeater, with an 1/8" brad point bit. And that screwdriver. The metal framed "saw" was hidden under the saws...Bonus? There was a 20" "DeVille" brand saw.. Will be a decent enough Toolbox saw. which left 5 full sized hand saws. Atkins No. 59, 8ppi, 26" long...later model...yeah, these were pretty dirty..but, all the plates were straight as can be, and sharp! Couple warranted Superior saws...one seems to be a D-7 style ( forgot to get a picture of the No. 59...this is the WS/ D-7..ooops) And this Mystery saw....There was also a Craftsman clone of a D-23.. Late 50s model. Then there was a Disston & Sons D-8, 10 ppi, 26" long crooscut.. That top bolt is a replacement Mr. Cook did. All the rest are Brass, top one is steel, and rusted solid. Plate is arrow straight, and them tiny teeth are very sharp. Legs are a bit crampy tonight, put a few "miles" on them. Will update as I rehab these treasures...at least the "good" ones...

Out and about last week or so....went up to Anna, OH.....the old Anna Lumber Company store is an Antique Store.... Walked in through the front door......walked past a few shelves, saw a pair of Liberty Bell jack planes.....in bad shape. They wanted way too much for them, too... Now, this place also has the old lumber barn next door. Things that are cleaned up and presentable go into the "store" and get a high price marked on them....the ones IN the barn? We talk about them, and find a decent to me price...so, for about half of what ONE beat up Liberty bell No. 126... A bit fuzzy, but there is a Stanley #1220 Eggbeater, a Stanley Bevel gauge, and I think a Stanley 1/4" chisel.... Wood on the bevel gauge is Rosewood, with brass add-ons. Blade is merely stamped "Made in USA" There is a "1/4" " on the blade of the chisel, the rest I am unable to read..yet. As for that drill.. Gear wheel has a triple edge. haven't found much in the way of markings on it.Wood is free of any cracks... On the crank handle, it is stamped as "Made in USA" but nothing else? Might be a Handyman? The cap had a surprise as well. Three "Drill points" Cap is intact, no cracks, and fits nicely. Looks like it MIGHThave been RED at one time? Not too bad..for $10 plus sales tax? They are getting a bit skimpy there, as compared to other times I have dropped by. Saws were way down. Might have to go back before they all are gone....
