Stanley No.49 Auger Bit Depth Gauge

I set it to an inch deep and drilled multiple holes in poplar, nice and clean, and the same depth, it just takes a little practice to see when it hits, because you really can't feel it hit.

My dad showed up at my house last summer and handed me one of these that he found in a misc. auction box.  I have not tried mine yet or cleaned it up but based on your findings, guess I will plan to hold on to it. Thanks for sharing.

@Bundoman, it's a great tool,  have tried mine now quite a few times and it works as advertised, and smoothly.

I saw the thread and love old bit and brace tools and the little voice in my head said, "I think you have one of those in the basement."

Walla!

Absolutely cool french! It's amazing the memory was triggered and you actually were able to recover the tool! Thanks for sharing your depth gauge!

The fun part is trying to make all the different attachments for the Bits and Brace work and then using them.
