I was told it's "vintage."

It has to be vintage.  Mine is similar.  I have seen them offered for as high a $2000.00 but what they sell for is always a different story.  The 618 madel has had upgrades over the years but was always a good tool.

We recently moved my dad into assisted living and are trying to sell some of his "work area" items.  One is an Atlas metal lathe, model #618, serial #019620.  I'm trying to find out how much it's worth, but am having a hard time finding this particular model online.  Is this something you can help me with?  Any assistance you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Joan Goddard

I tried to add pics here, but they won't upload.  ??

What format are the pictures? Look at the file name extension to be sure it matches one in the Accepted file types listed below in the Add File Types. Assuming they do, just "drag and drop" each picture to the Add Files link. Files will load in a "bucket" and display a thumbnail image. From there click on the upload link for each picture. Once in the text line of a post, you can double click on the inserted picture to edit size if/as needed.

Hope this helps and makes sense. If not let us know and we'll help however. Glad you found us.

Hi Artie!  No, we're not on FB at all.  :-)

Dan...I was just in Youngstown, OH, visiting family!  My parents were born and raised there.

Nicely repainted with a nice bench. Also, 3 jaw chuck plus a 4 jaw and the quick change tool rest all add value. Per chance is there a box, can or whatever with extra gears? They also add value. The machinist chests with the tooling etc adds significant value too.

Typical prices on Craigslist here in central Indiana for similar one usable but rough, $250-$350 range. Similar to yours $450-$850 range up to about $1000 assuming extra gears. You do have a very desirable unit, used but very well maintained. Hope this helps some? I would speculate in your part of the country $650-$850 would be fair. Remember, you can always ask for less at some point but not more at point of sale. Good luck and keep us posted.

Prayers for you and your family and especially your father. Difficult times. BTDT.

Thank you!  We were asking $700, to include all of the extras.  I'll keep you posted.  ...and yes, it's been a very difficult time!  :-(

Hi all!  I'm sorry that so much time has passed since I've updated on what became of the metal lathe that we were trying to sell.  In the end, we gave it away to a friend of my dad's.  We're just about finished going through all of my dad's "treasures" and will soon no longer have boxes of stuff in my basement!!

Thank you so much for your suggestions and help!

Sincerely,

Joan

Thanks Joan for the update. Happy to hear you found a good recipient for the lathe. Also that you're seeing light at the end of the tunnel for other items. A difficult, time consuming, often emotional task but also can be rewarding (not meaning $$'s).

Thanks for trusting us to provide advice and assistance during your journey. You're always welcome to stop in and chat.
