February 18, 201412 yr IF I can get this camera-ooski to upload a few photos, looks like it might work. Seems I have a duplicate shot. Just a Walnut & Pine Tool Box. Filling up fast, too
February 18, 201412 yr Author Think there is room for one more tray? Only a third of the Hand Planes made it into the chest. May have to build a til for them??
February 18, 201412 yr Ya gotta love this, Steve, keep it up man, I love what you do in that basement of yours, you are like the Ever-Ready Bunny with woodworking, nothing gets in your way, I am so glad you are a Patriot Woodworker sir, you exemplify what a woodworker will do just to make some saw dust. No shop, no problem, set up on the front porch with a plank across the railings, that's the shop. No place to work out of the rain, no problem, got a basement that will do just fine. No place to finish that project? No problem, got a washer and dryer with open space on the top of them, perfect. Never once have I heard you complain that you may lack a "proper shop". You make a shop where ever you hang your hat, that my friends, is a real WOODWORKER! Rock and Roll Steve, go get em man!!!!!
February 19, 201412 yr Author If one looks close enough, they will see some raised panels in the sides. I use Paul Sellers idea of using just a handplane to raise all the panels. There is also a rebate on the back of each panel, so the raised panel can fit in the grooves better. Rebate was also done with a plane. A WARDS #78 rabbet plane (made by Stanley) was set to cut just the rebate, on all four edges. Added a Walnut strip to the edge of the lid. Seven screws hold two pieces of scrap Walnut. Had to size the two chunks down to match the lid. Why two? Didn't have anything long enough in a single chunk.. And, Mister Morris, The shop is called.....The Dungeon Shop. I did have to fire Igor, though. He just wouldn't keep the place swept clean...
February 20, 201412 yr Author Igor never swept up around the shop. I think he was afraid of the Franken Bailey #5 hand-plane.. Got one end of the top squared away with that circular saw. After an after work NAP, I will try to square the other end. Still have the Brass hinges ( Found them down in the walnut shavings, last night) to install. Get this project completed (maybe LOL) and then a long break. Have to go and sharpen a lot of tools back up, about wore some of them out. Including me....
February 21, 201412 yr Author going to try to get that lid flat(er) sometime maybe ONE of these will work? The one in the middle might one of the few actual Stanley bench planes I have. A Stanley "Four Square" Junior Jack 5-1/4, with the SW trademark. Makes a nice #3 sized jack plane. As for the Millers Falls smooth planes They seemed to have found a hidding place. The "Dunlap" was also made by Millers Falls. The little block plane was made by Stanley for Great Neck Tool Co. Other than the "Great Neck" cast into the toe, it IS a Stanley 9-1/2. Might get the counter bores filled in, since I went out tonight and BOUGHT some plugs. I USED to have a plug cutter, but it went MIA during the last move. It was even a tapered plug cutter. Got some poly gloss to spread on the wood, and a couple brushes.

November 17, 20187 yr Loving it...These archived "Newman" posts brought forward are like classic re-runs...all new to me. Maybe they should be re-titled Best of Newman-Dungeon Shop Series-Season 1 Only bring them forward John when Steven is between current projects...that way we never miss an episode. I know there are lots of Best of Newman-Rust Hunt 101 episodes in the time vault too.
