May 6, 201412 yr New Horizons Dear Patriot Woodworkers, Friends and Guests! We have some wonderful happenings going on within The Patriot Woodworker community. But before we move on with that, I'd like to thank all our members and friends for making our woodworking community a wonderful place to hang our hats, and call home. We have a great bunch of folks! Moving Our Community First off, we will be moving our community to another server and to a different user experience as well. Though we are the Few and the Proud, we have outgrown the capabilities of our current software and hosting service, and we are going to provide our members and guests a much more pleasurable experience in the way of a complete tear down and rebuild of our community home! Our discussion forum will be a completely different format, allowing the user a much simpler method to jump in and discuss hot topics such as general woodworking, finishing, tools and machinery, wood-turning, scrolling and much more! We are going to have an official Home Page or as some may call it, the Landing Page. On this main page will be the latest news about our community and the projects we are involved in. We will also display the veterans support events around the nation that our Patriot Woodworkers and visitors may want to be involved in. As well we will have the latest news regarding trends in the woodworking industry, and blogs from our favorite bloggers such as Woodcraft's Frank Byers, and more! The main page of The Patriot Woodworker will be the window into our organization, meanwhile there will be an obvious navigation link to our new discussion forum so with one click, you can be discussing your favorite topics regarding the art and trade of woodworking. What Do I Need to Do? Well, not much really. We will be down for a period of 48 hours when it does happen, and we'll be providing updates for the final closure date of our current site up to that point. You will however need to move any of your images off our current site if you want to save them on your PC. Simply right click on your image and click on "Save Image As" in most Windows software, then save it to a folder on your desktop or where you deem proper on your own PC. What Will Be Migrated? All our forum topics and replies will be migrated to our new forum. Most blogs will be migrated to our new site. All of our member profiles will be migrated to our new forum. The Old Machinery Workshop On top of all this we are creating a new Old Machinery Forum. Not only will the old machinery forum have a new place to call home, it will have a completely different name as well, "The Old Machinery Workshop". Our current machinery forum host Larry Buskirk is currently working closely with us for the creation new categories within The Old Machinery Workshop. We will keep everyone informed on the status of The Old Machinery Workshop. And, I do believe ol Larry may be looking for some help in running the OMW! Image above, logo prototype "The Old Machinery Workshop" created by Larry Buskirk. He is currently working on more possibilities! In closing We are very excited about our future. We hope you'll move forward with us as we charge into summer with a fresh and new appearance, and a re-newed commitment to provide a better community experience for our members. We will keep you all informed as to the progress of our new site. As with anything new, this will take a little time for our current members to get to know the new software and forum format. But in reality, it is way simpler then what we have here currently, if you guys are able to navigate and post discussions here, then the new forum format will be a breeze. There is one hitch though, just be forewarned that in order to display images in your discussions, you'll have to insert the url of that image into your topic instead of a direct load as you do now. You will have your own photo gallery's on the new Patriot Woodworker, so you'll be able to use the url's within your own photo gallery's. Now that being said, this image display inconvenience will only last a short period of time on our new forum, as we will be upgrading that process so you will be able to click on the upload button, and browse your own PC for the placement of those images, as you do here. Besides that little caveat, the forum is completely reasonable, and easy to use, all of you will love it! We will also have tutorials on how to navigate around our new forum. Â Thank you for being here, and we look forward to our new home soon!!! We will give our Patriot Woodworker's a two week notice before we make the big move! John Morris The Patriot Woodworker

May 6, 201412 yr Author It will definitely be for the better Larry in many ways. Our site here is getting clunky and hard to navigate. I lost count how many folks have contacted me and told us flat out that the site is just too plain confusing. And that is just the tip of the iceberg here. Where we are going is light years ahead in terms of ease of use, and navigation. Remember the old adage KISS? Keep it Simple Stupid! Well, we are going with that with our new site, but that is not to say that the technology isn't better, it is! The software is very intuitive and will be very easy for our members to use, you all will love it. Thanks for your support Larry!Larry Jenkins said: John1.. You know this.. Winners thrive on change!
