June 26, 201412 yr Bath Fitters has come and gone but the remodel continues. We ordered a custom vanity top but it won't be here for another couple of weeks. There's a lot of work to be done before it gets here. Mimi picked out the lights she wanted- after I had finished the painting. She picked 2 lights, unfortunately there is only one mounting box/access. I really didn't want to have to cut into the freshly painted wall and mount a retro box, so we settled on an escutcheon plate style mounting piece. Here's what I came up with- In order to keep from having to make a second hole in the wall, I opted to run the wires within the wooden plate. Some templates and a router created the "raceways" for the wiring. Wire nuts for the connections and silicon caulk to keep things connected and in place- tape is just there until the caulk cured. Ready for the wall- The vanity cabinet and a small wall cabinet are coming together, also- The doors are raised panel, stick and cope construction- got the ones for the wall cabinet glued together today. As well as the hinges located, drilled and test fitted. This is my first time using "Blum" hinges- at 93¢ each, the price was right. Other than the rather large "clearance distance" between the back of the door and the face frame, I like them. I think I'm going to make the drawer boxes with thru dove tails and add the fronts. So much to do, so little time!
June 26, 201412 yr Lew, that light mount is way cool man, neat idea on that one. I think that was a great compromise instead of cuttin into that nice clean wall. Great job sir.
December 19, 201510 yr Brought another great project up from our archives! I love going through these as I clean them up and move them up to our live forums. Great work Lew!

December 20, 201510 yr Author I guess I forgot to upload the finished room Since then, "we" added a towel rack under the wall storage cabinet and another floating shelf on the wall to the right of the medicine cabinet.
December 20, 201510 yr Thanks, Lew. Great looking cabinets and shelves. A really welcoming room. You and the wife have good taste.

December 20, 201510 yr Lew how did you do the tile surround for the bath, is the tub a separate? Did you purchase surround panels, or are those ceramic tiles?
December 20, 201510 yr Author As we have only one bathroom and it would have taken me 6 months to do this myself, we opted to have "Bathfitters" do the tub, surround, tub/shower plumbing and wainscoting. They were in and out in a day and a half (half day was for the wainscoting). Their work is guaranteed for the life of the products and the cost was only slightly higher than that of local contractors. Speed was our determining factor, Bathfitters uses a thick (about .125") one piece vinyl surround and custom fitted vinyl tub covers (even thicker vinyl- close to .25"). I am very impressed with their product and the quality of their work. Highly recommend them to anyone who wants quality and doesn't need a bathroom demolition.
