Probably the last of these for a while. Had the medallions glued up for a while and finally got them turned and finished. Next couple of weeks I'll be mowing the yard, prepping and practicing for our club's April demo, mowing, picking up sticks, mowing, and doing yard work and mowing. :)

Gorgeous Steve. Love them.

I may have missed a prior post but am wondering how you create the features? They look wonderful.

I am following these because I want to use the technique to make a very fancy walking staff with inlaid figures up and down the entire length. I can turn 24" long pieces and connect them to each other with metal dowel screws.

It looks like Wichman3 has already answered but if you have any more questions please ask!

It happens that Wood magazine did an article on that very process many years ago, in the March 2000 issue. I couldn't really call myself a turner back then but that project just spoke to me. I ended up making several of them for gifts and Christmas presents. It also happens that I did a video on how I make them and some of the things I discovered to make the project work for me. The video is on my youtube channel if you care to check it out.

Thanks to all!!

Looks like I have a poor memory as I liked the prior post! Thank you @Wichman3 for the links.

@Steve Krumanaker I'll need to look up the YouTube. My husband has a lathe that he hopes to get back to using now that he retired.

Do you have a link to the channel? The channel I found with your name has the latest video as 3 years ago, and I didn't see this project (other look interesting!).

Those are super cool, Steve.

FWIW, there is a link to my channel at the bottom of my posts in this group. With that, I may have inadvertently mislead you and it has been a few years since I've posted a video. The video I was talking about concerns making walking sticks as Wichman3 mentioned. I have been itching to do more videos though and maybe these ornament globes would be a good place to start.

I would also tell you, Gwinnet woodworkers did a video several years ago on making inlaid ornament globes. In their video they used a scroll saw to do the inlays. I have to admit, that video was part of the inspiration for my version which of course uses a laser. Their process was much different than mine and their method was all about very precise measurements and extensive layout but it is a great tool for learning how to do these ornament globes. Me? I just eyeball the glue up and then start spinning them. LOL

Here is a link to the Gwinnet wood workers video.

That would be interesting to many I'm sure!

Sorry I'm late to the unveiling Steve, but the latest batch is just as amazing as the first.

Beautiful work all around. Thank-you!

Great job as usual Steve. I could not sell hollow ornaments . So just do solids now like snowmen and trees.

Thanks Gerald. That surprises me. They have been pretty good to me. With that, I am the smallest of potatoes when it comes to selling. The shop I am in generally sells around 20 globe ornaments and about the same for bird houses during the season.
