February 2Feb 2 First, I like the new look of the Monday topic page. Very bold and stands out. Thanks. So after Friday's well pump fiasco which included missing my oldest grandson's home basketball game (they lost) basically took the weekend off; slept in a bit Saturday morning, then traveled about an hour SW for oldest grandsons JV basketball game. They WON. He had a great game. After the varsity game on the return trip home, Mrs. and I treated everyone to a steak dinner; Church Sunday; no nap or donuts afterwards.Week ahead; there's still the matter of picking up all my tools etc. from the storm cellar and putting them back where I can't find them for the next lurking catastrophic project; need to return Menards well pump I didn't use; maybe some additional errands; oldest grandson has a Thursday night, non-conference, home game. The foot of snow still on the ground is preventing my motivator from starting. Oh yeah, that Pennsylvania root rat stood by with thousands of hung over people cheering the rat seeing a shadow in an obviously sunless sky. That's how my day started today. February 2Feb 2 Last weekend I solved an issue I have been thinking about for awhile. I have made a number of storage boxes and it seems every time I make one I have to run to HD for hinges or latches. A few weeks ago I needed a couple of hinges and I found that I can make hinges out of a couple of bicycle chain links.I have been trying to figure out how to make a DIY latch for the boxes. I have drawn up several ideas but none of them panned out. Saturday evening I sketched up a latch idea and Sunday morning I made one out of two screws and a piece of 1/4" plywood I cut out with my scroll saw and it worked out pretty good. Now I won't have to run to HD every time I need a box latch.Like most things i make, not fancy but functional. No Google search this time................this came out of my own pea brain. February 3Feb 3 Who brings their Mother to an apprentice job interview?Seriously, and this was not a good situation either. When I sat down, I set my clipboard on the table, then my coffee, she launches off about did I bring some for everyone. Then why am I in a labcoat? Went downhill from there. I never spoke a word, nor did her son. The GM looked at me, I nodded and he sent them on their way with a, "we will get back to you."Can't imagine the reaction when we got to the basic tools required to work with. The ones he buys, not us.
February 3Feb 3 Popular Post Started the morning hauling up more firewood. Did a little dirt moving and the went to help a friend find something he lost. Stopped by HD to pickup supplies for a little electrical work. When I got home stayed in shop late to set up light over screw cabinet. hope to get more done tomorrow. PT to start the day and then a bit of stuff in house to take care of before Man Church. Seems the harder I try the behinder I get. This is what I did late. Needed light over screw cabinet. Ironic, isn't it, to bring a parent who has probably never sat on the other side of the desk in an interview? On the other hand, from the sound of it, that kid probably did not make the decision on whether to go to the interview alone or not - mom did! Man, it sounds like an old Bob Newhart comedy routine.... but it's real!
February 5Feb 5 This year's annual Banquet is going to be delayed. We need some help getting the TPW banquet repairs done.
