January 19Jan 19 Popular Post Good Morning! Just trying to chill out.. already LOL. found where I stashed a small white board. for keeping notes on what i wish to do project wise, in the long term. The small piece of Pinion wood I had on the lathe.. the 1/4 hole in it became too loose for my expanding arbor. So, glued/hammered in a oak dowel, to redrill. Posted some stuff to sell on market place wherein I will put those funds towards a larger Lathe :) Would like to get started on and finish a small-ish shop storage project today, but i need to get my energy level up! January 19Jan 19 Popular Post Waiting on a pressure cutoff switch for my old air compressor. Disassembled the old one hoping to find where the air leak source. Nothing obvious except that you need 4 hands and the strength of Superman to reassemble the unit. I'm lacking in both departments. The compressor is tucked under my lathe, so vacuuming and sweeping shavings was accomplished. Supposed to very cold here until the end of the month so probably won't be able to get the chainsaw started to cut into those locust logs. But I have some other small blanks, in various stages of completion, waiting to be finished.
January 19Jan 19 Popular Post too bleeding cold to even stick me nose out the door... Monday? We'll see how it goes...
January 19Jan 19 Popular Post Oldest grandson's JV basketball team lost Friday night; youngest grandson's basketball travel team won both games scoring a total of 111 points. Not bad for 6th graders; Week ahead: rumor of a football game down in Miami tonight that might warrant watching. GO HOO, HOO HOOSIERS! 😉; not much else happening; donut have any planned shop work; fearful tools would shatter with the extreme cold; who am I kidding, I'm more likely to shatter when it's this cold.
January 19Jan 19 Popular Post Well, Dave (and Ron and Krumy and other Hoosiers) I wish you guys the best tonight while I'm watching something on Netflix. I managed to get to the shop yesterday for some piddling, but probably won't make it out there today. Over the weekend I got my taxes finished and will mail them tomorrow, and figured out how to pay my other 2 early year big expenses (1/2 year property tax and annual home insurance bill). But today is turkey baking day, we have turkey about 3-4 times a year and todaya is one of those days...it takes a fair amount of effort for me to cook one so that will give me something to do while I'm in the house. Hope everyone has a nice MLK day, even if it is colder than it should be.

About 20 years ago, our son bought the 10-acre property that was once my parents'. He decided to become a farmer, and raised chickens, ducks and turkeys for many years. His turkeys were often in the 40-pound range, and he always brought some over when they were butchered. Lynn would invite everyone she knew for the feast, but the left-overs still went on forever! We had turkey so often that today I have trouble even LOOKING at the *%#@ things!

January 19Jan 19 Popular Post Heft & Hubris Day... Yep, that one... needed a straighter edge to run through the tablesaw, against the rip fence... Stanley No. 8c....all 10 pounds of it....plank is just under 5' long....
January 20Jan 20 Popular Post In the woods today and only saw two buzzards. Very comfortable today on the stand maybe even too many clothes. Finally finished the dust collection in the shop. Now onward and upward to better things.🤠
January 20Jan 20 Popular Post Well, really really hoping today the minisplit is fully installed. Has been a series of issues and setbacks. Have been assured it will be completed. Also hoping to get work done on a mobile air cleaner using a furnace motor along with pleated air filters. Thinking that I want the blower facing up rather than low and on the ground (thus raising a dust cloud as, let's face it, the floor isn't dust free).

Before I bought my WEN air circulator, I used furnace blowers to make shop built dust/air filters. One for the ceiling- Replaced with And one for the window As can be seen from the images, I mostly forget to turn on the filters/dust collection. My shop is in the basement and soon discovered that the window exhaust filter works too good. In the winter, when the furnace is operating, the fan actually pulls air DOWN the chimney and back into the basement. Note to self: Turn off the furnace before turning on the fan!

Note that air cleaners are intended to filter ambient air and therefore need a circulation around the room. They do not help much is they are not on for the entire time shop is open. Setup on a timer to clean air after leaving shop is also a very good idea. I have two . One is a JDS and the new one a jet. The jet will not come on unless the switch on it is used , or remote, so I bypassed that control to direct wire . When the lights go on the air cleaners also go on.
