Popular Post BB1 Posted December 6 Popular Post Report Posted December 6 Lew - I have a cart similar to what you show. Here's a picture from when I first built it. I had some "mouse situations" in the long cubbies that were gross (and I tossed some of the wood as I couldn't imagine using it for any gift or project) so that's why I started putting my good boards vertical. Rather than leaning them against the wall, I wanted them to rest on a surface to avoid any bowing. Saw a video by Matthew Peech where he built a cart that I based my plan on. His was larger that included plywood storage that I won't include as I still have my original cart. Need to see if I can reconfigure some of the cart to make it useful. Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted December 6 Popular Post Report Posted December 6 Woodsmith offered free plans to build this one. It holds small plywood scraps in the back. I think I still have the pdf file if it might meet your needs. HARO50, Larry Buskirk, DuckSoup and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post BB1 Posted December 6 Popular Post Report Posted December 6 Fred, thanks for that, but I'm putting together a "long boards storage" solution (hopefully!!). Grandpadave52, Larry Buskirk, HARO50 and 2 others 5 Quote

BB1 Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 (edited) Any ideas on what is going on here? 2x4 in the shop - don't recall this "damage" and am worried what it could be (bugs??). Don't see any similar damage on other 2x4 stored next to it or on the rest of the board (10 ft original length). Dug in with a chisel a bit Edited December 6 by BB1 Grandpadave52, DuckSoup and Gerald 2 1 Quote
Popular Post lew Posted December 6 Popular Post Report Posted December 6 I'm not a forensic entomologists and don't even play on on TV. Judging from the finished areas surround the "holes" it looks like the damage was there before the lumber was sized at the mill. The edges around this seem too smooth and perfect to be done after the milling/drying processes. Grandpadave52, HARO50, BB1 and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post BB1 Posted December 6 Popular Post Report Posted December 6 Lew - praying you are right! Almost funny (not the haha funny) as I'm so particular when picking out boards! How I missed this is a mystery. I did a side cut on the other spot. Fred W. Hargis Jr, Grandpadave52, Larry Buskirk and 2 others 5 Quote

How I missed this is a mystery. I did a side cut on the other spot. It may have been an "ingrown" branch or other non-metallic item the tree grew around. Metallic items are usually detected before the timber is taken into the sawing station Grandpadave52, BB1, Larry Buskirk and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post BB1 Posted December 7 Popular Post Report Posted December 7 Actually found another spot - this definitely looks like a "pre" issue as the label shows it was cut in half! Larry Buskirk, Gerald, SigmundJake and 4 others 7 Quote
Popular Post SigmundJake Posted December 7 Popular Post Report Posted December 7 You must excuse the mess. Here is my version of my cut off storage. The first one wasn’t completed, I added a lip to hold the plywood. The messy one, I bought a cheap lumber storage rack and hung it on the wall for long pieces. I like it, but does take away valuable wall space. I opted for natural light which takes away from my usable wall space. Hope it helps! Fred W. Hargis Jr, BB1, DuckSoup and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post BB1 Posted December 7 Popular Post Report Posted December 7 First - thanks for sharing Second- that's not messy (not showing my space right now!!) And both are great solutions. I wish my cart didn't have the long cubbies in the center (as that's where the mice situation was uncovered). Trying to think how I might block the ends off to still use the storage. I actually have some of the metal racks that I got on a sale years ago. I'm in a pole barn so no close studs so never got them up. I have built out a wall so some opportunity, but would like to avoid the fully flat storage. Grandpadave52, Fred W. Hargis Jr, Gerald and 5 others 8 Quote

Popular Post Larry Buskirk Posted December 7 Author Popular Post Report Posted December 7 Just read a report that people over the age of 45 should avoid shoveling snow. No wonder I'm pooped. I'm 67. Grandpadave52, lew, Gerald and 4 others 1 6 Quote

No wonder I'm pooped. I'm 67. I’m just a pup at 62. When I bought the property, my snow removal plan was a tracked Honda 2 stage snowblower for 260’ of gravel driveway. After two winters, I opted for a small gator with a 4’ wide blade. Music, sunglasses, handwarmers and my sorrell’s and it’s just about like playtime. I can get to 95% without picking up a shovel.
