Mowing today, I think.  The remove the electric fence from around the garden and pack it away until next year. Everything else is TBD.

Out early today for a trip to "Boilertown" for haircut, then errands. Stopped at Harbor Freight (go H-F) for a couple items, then Menards and finally Rural King. RK had a really good sale price on .45acp...they were out of stock. Settled for .22lr and 9mm...Great prices on those too. No donut stops though. Too hot.

Still have the car to unload; was gonna finish the mowing I started yesterday which I said Monday I wasn't going to do this week, but saw a couple of squirrels so I'm monitoring their activities now. Guess I'll finish the mowing tomorrow after monthly men's breakfast; should be warmer by then. Church Sunday. Mrs. has to work tomorrow too so with the lack of structure, supervision and those pesky squirrels, trouble may be brewing.

Taking my daughter and her boyfriend to the Nascar race at Richmond Saturday night. They’ve never been to a race or even watched one for more than a few minutes on tv. Hope they like it.

At least the sun won't be beating down on you with a night race. Been a few years since I've been to a cup race or any other for that matter.

Enjoy your time. Don't forget the ear plugs.

Decided Thursday morning to bite the bullet and redo my computer. The operating system has been continuously updated since Windows XP. As it turned out, should have used the bullet on me🤬. Two programs I really depend on just didn’t want to be reinstalled. Got Quicken working but still having trouble getting an updated Outlook installed so my iPhone calendar can sync to the PC. The drama continuuueeess

The more MS messes with their OS the less I like it. Won't be updating to W12 (Or whatever they decide to call it) when it's released.

As little as possible today.  Had to do a dash job on a Lexus this week.   My back did not appreciate that workout.  Next time they ask, I'm gonna just say no.  Let the younger guys learn and get it done.

So what it takes 4 days?

Odd jobs around the house today.  Replaced the garage door safety beam transmitter - it was acting up when the sun was shining on it.  Now taking a break from digging out a ditch to try to find the pipe that was used in place of a culvert.  May do some more of that presently, but the day is heating up so I may do more tomorrow instead.  Hoping to get in a little shop time this afternoon.  Nice and cool in the shop (its a walkout basement).

For those interested Harbor Freight is having a parking lot sale this weekend.  You gotta find the gems but this flyer looked pretty decent.  My apprentice got the same 6 drawer cart I have, $499 down from $599.

I mostly bailed on Windows in 2002, running linux instead.  Had a dual boot machine for a little while, as I had a WWII flight simulator I liked on the Windows 7 side.

All these years I've been running the most old school yet easy to maintain flavor of linux I could.  I'm not into the nuts and bolts of it, just want a stable system that works well for most of what I do.

I've mostly had that with the one I use, but recently I went looking for the .ssh directory and couldn't find it.  The ls command no longer shows you the hidden directories without some kind of modifier.  It's there, but now I have to go find the switch I need to show the hidden stuff.  Even the old school stuff is starting to hide the gritty details from the user.

I had a millennial kid at work (yeah, "kid" who's in his 40's) who seemed to like this kind of arrangement - he liked knowing the "secret handshakes" that get you in to the gritty details on the apple machines we have there.  I can only imagine that this is why so much of the non-Windows world has gone this way now.  I stopped using my work issued mac for much when the new one I got in 2022 didn't have an X server installed by default.  You can buy one and install it, but the whole utility of having macs was that they were enough like Windows for the admin people and enough like linux for the science and engineering people.  Getting rid of XQuartz made it less useful to me so I just brought in a linux machine to use instead.  I use the mac for admin stuff that requires a VPN and zoom meetings - of which there are thankfully very few for me.

I guess the summary is I'm getting too old for this stuff, right? 😄
