@John MorrisA couple of the electric providers here in SC started a peak rate schedule.  For 21 hours a day, the rate is $.06/KWH.  For the highest demand 3 hours, it goes to $12/KWH (yes you read that right), but only for the one day each month that shows the greatest peak hours use.  Winter peak rate hours in 6-9 am, summer 3-6 pm.

 

For example, one day in June we could use 3 KWH between 3-6 pm, and be charged the $12/ rate for that one day only.  Every other hour for the entire month is .06.  Normally set AC at 75, we cool the house to 70 from 12-3 to minimize cooling during 3-6.  Except on these hottest days, AC doesn't run much during the peak.  And SWMBO wears a sweater during that time.  We'll see.

 

I have a mini split for the shop, and I've usually had enough by 3 pm anyway.

 

In the winter, we don't use the electric dryer during the peak.  Fortunately our heat/HWH is NG.

A number of years ago at my church, someone came in on a Friday afternoon for a wedding rehearsal and bumped the A/C in the sanctuary way high.  The utility slapped us with a higher "peak demand" for the next 12 months.  IIRC, it cost us about $6,000 more.  We installed a peak demand monitor system what would rotate power over the various parts of the building so that a ceiling limit was never exceeded,

Late again this week; missed Monday, well not really; did some weed pulling in the "big garden"; transferred parts & installed new lower driveshaft unit on weedeater #1; changed oil, filter, service Mrs. Jeep; it was well past due; went to grandsons 12U baseball play-off championship game. "We" lost in 6 innings, 11-3; left too many runners on base. Thankful the season is over; returned home then sprayed broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, zucchini and squash plants.

 

Rest of the week will not be anything fun; working in the garden or mowing/ trimming depending on the time of day or if it's storming; my car is past due for oil/ filter change and service so I'll try to work that in also. Recycle center drop off in the queue as well. I'm sure I can find other things to fill in any unused time slots. Work safe, stay hydrated, avoid excessive sun exposure and take time to smell the roses or eat a doughnut.

Table I built, has a purpose in life...so, it got "Delivered" this morning...

Had to re-arrange things a little bit, but, the house NOW has A/C downstairs.....My son already had his going upstairs.   had to re-arrange things a bit..

Those 2 chargers were in the way, had the exhaust tube to get in there, the drain line to get out, and the power cord hooked into the Power strip BEHIND the Computer Desk..

Laid down a towel...

Unit has hard plastic wheels, towel is to protect the Top's finish...and, hide the fact there IS a drawer under it...for those "Important papers"

 

The Kitty Diner was not affected...

Paint can acts as a step for the cats to get their fat bodies up there..

 

Unit is currently set on "Fan Only"...

Here in Massachusetts, National Grid is our provider, but our town has contracted with a provider with lower rates. National grid still does the billing. With the varying seasons here, there is a lot of fluctuation in our electric bills.  When I built the addition to my home several years ago, I opted to include electric heat in the 14'x28' addition. The home also has an electric water heater, electric stove, electric clothes drier, air conditioning, and of course the motor and blower in the furnace that heats the bulk of home. With the varying season the kWh usage varies with the' month. Our average usage from June-December is in the range of about 600 kWh, but from January to May the usage soars to over 1300 kWh average, more than doubling the monthly bill. I've heard people complaining of bills over $700.00 per month from National Grid, My largest bill has yet to get over $400.00 in any month. A tremendous savings with the town's contractor.

Our town generates its own electricity. Great savings-

 

"Chambersburg is unique among Pennsylvania municipalities. We are one of only thirty-five communities to own and operate our own electric pool for the benefit of the community. Our town is the largest municipal electric system by twice the size and the only municipal electric system in Pennsylvania to own and operate electric generating plants."
 

I turned the AC on last month and let go on its own and I have a dehumidifier running on auto and of course the normal other daily uses.  My latest bill is $121.00.

Our utilities usually averages a little +/- of 200 a month. That includes electricity, water, sewer, garbage and a couple of miscellaneous fees. 

Our electric bill is averaged thru the year and right now is 175 for 2700 ft house and shop. Have gas heat and in summer gas is about 50, but as high as 150 in winter.

SE Idaho, 700 sq ft home, 1 window AC for the room. Monthly level pay; electrical $85, Gas $33 (and the furnace kicked on last night, overnight low in the upper 40's.

Mine varies from a couple hundred in the winter or summer to around $85 in the temperate months.  House is big, but it's made of concrete and styrofoam so it stays pretty stable.

 

I haven't run the cooling yet (heat pump) this year because it's not coming on for some reason.  Got to get that looked at.  But it started raining this week so at my elevation I can get away with passive cooling all night and close up the windows in the morning.  House is upper 70's when I get home from work and low 70's in the morning.

 

My shop is in a walkout basement, same construction as the house.  Really stable temps down there, 72-76 all the time.

Finaly getting around to checking out that NIB Ion USB turntable I got from Bruce a couple of years ago.

Sounds pretty good through that Creative Bluetooth Soundbar. Just sitting here "Chilling Out" to some Kool & The Gang.
