Featured Topic Featured Download Featured Video A little history lesson of our beloved banjo. It's roots traveled a long way.
June 9, 20251 yr Popular Post I did get my quarter frames finished over the weekend. Once I get the brass engraved brass plates (this week) I can assemble them and be done with that. I now have a small flatwork project for Marie i need to complete. Otherwise, it's supposed to turn nice for the week tomorrow so I'll be outside, maybe even get some time over at the gun club.
June 9, 20251 yr Popular Post Ahhh, banjos! I have ZERO musical talent but when our squadron transferred to CVA-64, for our participation in the Southeast Asian War Games, a fellow AQ was getting out and didn't want to carry his 4 string banjo back home. He gave it to me. Luckily, there was a Chief who could play one and taught me some songs. Never mastered the 5 string but not for the lack of trying. Still have them both plus a mandolin- Thanks Fred Dorst! Harrisburg Woodcraft demo went great. I have another one in Leesburg, VA on June 28. If you are in the area, please stop in and say Hi!

These demo range from just being there to answer questions and use the tools while people walk by; to actually having seated participants while I turn a project and explain what each tool does and how to use it. Saturday was the latter. After it was over, a fellow who had just started turning, and had no training, brought a dried, splitting, end grain branch mounted in a chuck. He had tried to use a gouge, screw drive and drill to hollow out a cup. It was not going well. Helped him use my tools to get what he wanted made. He left happy and proud of his accomplishments.

June 9, 20251 yr Popular Post Week ahead; couple evening meetings at church; 12U baseball season wraps up regular season with games tonight and Wednesday. Remainder of the week will be mowing, garden and yard maintenance, some garage cleaning and reorganizing plus whatever else I'm told to do. Weekend; Spent Saturday, before the rains came, doing power equipment maintenance; mostly sharpening mower blades I'd let accumulate. Sunday, after church and the meal, worked on a home maintenance project and admired the gardens and their weeds after 3.3" of rain. Sadly, concluded the Holiday weekend celebration.

June 9, 20251 yr Popular Post I had nothing on my plate today until I stumbled onto a YouTube video about using palletwood as shingles. And I'm off! I had a large stash of unplaned boards and started cutting

Led to some interesting conversations when I answered the phone when others called to offer condolences to the wife.
