As to tapping wood for a faceplate , it is easy and would work well. Beal does not make a 1-10 tap but others do and runs about 48 .

The metal faceplate with the chip out is probably also cracked. As to the "adapter" I saw something similar at the estate sale for one of our members. There are more parts as it is a mount for a proprietary faceplate system.

I'm just going to abandon the face plate and whatever the adapter thing is.  I'm patiently waiting for the supernova 2 to arrive.  I also found a drive center in the box he gave me.  I found out that the live center on the tail stock was bound up and I got it freed up. He also gave me some tools.  A couple Craftsman and a couple Robert Sorby and some random.

So I've not seen a tool rest like this on any videos I have watched.  Does anyone know what all the holes are for? 

Maybe to move it around, make it long on one end or something like that?

My thoughts too.

 

The adapter is threaded in the center and may be able to be used as a screw chuck in conjunction with a hanger bolt as long as the hole is perfectly centered when mounted on the lathe.

 

     

 

It could be used for items smaller than bowls

 

 

 

Hmmm,  that kinda makes sense but the one you showed doesn't have the short threaded shaft that's on mine. But  it really doesn't matter,  I can't use it because it's a loose fit.
