Popular Post Turn n Learn Posted June 2, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted June 2, 2025 Hello All, My name is Tony and I'm a new wood turner. I got an older J-Line BRODHEAD GARRETT 1236 I spent some time cleaning it up and going thru the tail stock. Got the belt moved to run at about 1200 RPM's I live in the North Florida Panhandle close to Panama City. I am very interested ( my wife says obsession) In turning and leaning more about wood working. Thanks for all the wisdom you share, Tony Grandpadave52, Headhunter, Fred W. Gerald Posted June 3, 2025 Report Posted June 3, 2025 Welcome to the forum. By the way we like picture. Just wondering have never heard of your lathe brand. How old is it? lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 Gerald, I think it's from the 60's. It is 120v with a 1" 10TPI I found a manual for an Atlas 7122 on Ebay that looks exactly like my Lathe, it is only 4 pages. $10.00 so I bought it. Grandpadave52 and lew 2 Quote

Does the Easy Wood Tools chuck fit on the headstock threads ? Grandpadave52 1 Quote
Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 Sadly NO! The only thing that fits that was given to me with the lathe is a 5" face plate Grandpadave52 and Fred W. Hargis Jr 1 1 Quote
Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 I did buy a supernova2 with a 1" 10TPI insert adapter Grandpadave52 and lew 2 Quote
lew Posted June 5, 2025 Report Posted June 5, 2025 That’s sucks! If there is a machine shop near you, they might be able to make an adapter to match the EWT chuck Grandpadave52 1 Quote

Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 Not sure what this is, but the guy thought it would make the chuck work, it didn't. It fits loosely. Any ideas? Grandpadave52 1 Quote
Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 Here is a picture of the face plate, is it safe to use? It screws down tight. lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

Can't help on your other question but I personally would be leary of this. Likely a powdered metal casting. Considering the age and condition, I'd be fearful it would crack further into the thread bore. When I saw your lathe picture, I thought maybe it was a Craftsman although I'm pretty sure Atlas made both wood and metal lathes as well as drill presses for Craftsman during that era. I'd guess you could find replacement face plates searching for Craftsman as well. Obviously just be sure it has the 1"x 10tpi bore. DuckSoup, lew, Turn n Learn and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted June 5, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted June 5, 2025 I agree with Dave, I wouldn't use that faceplate. DuckSoup, lew, Turn n Learn and 2 others 4 1 Quote

The larger piece appears to be an adapter to match headstock threads to another accessory. However, the male threaded end looks very short and I wonder if it would be safe to use. The fact that you have an adapter to match the 10tpi x 8 of the headstock to your Easy Wood chuck pretty much has you set to go. That face plate does look a little suspect. I have pretty much abandoned my faceplates for the "face plate ring" mounting procedure. That way I don't need to remove the chuck to use the "face plate" mounting configuration. Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 No I don't have the adapter for the easy wood chuck, I think it is a 1" 8TPI. So I can't use it. (Bummer) But I ordered the supernova 2 with a 1" 10 TPI Insert adapter that should be here next week. As far as that 2 piece adapter it must be a 1 -1/16 or 1-1/8 10 TPI because it will go on the headstock but it is loose, so it's of no use. Thanks for the responses everyone. Turn n Learn Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Posted June 5, 2025 Also I saw where someone used a faceplate for sanding. They attached a velcro type backing to the faceplate and then they could change grits. I might try using the faceplate for that. lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

A lot of turners make wooden faceplates. You just need a tap to match the headstock threads. Fred W. Hargis Jr and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

Velcro or if you have a piece of smooth Formica (or similar plastic) you can cover the wood with it and use PSA sanding discs Grandpadave52 1 Quote
