November 30, 20241 yr Popular Post I made this little jig to help me sharpen my router bits. I have hand tremors, so this little jig (hopefully) will help me get them sharp without ruining them. It’s made from mostly plywood and pine. The dremel tool can be raised or lowered. I put a knob on the back to hold the dremel in the position I want/need. The tool on the table of the jig is a 1950’ish router bit holder. It was made for this purpose, but it was to sharpen the bit while still in the router. I found it on eBay. It is adjustable to change the angle. I only sharpened one bit with it so far and it seemed to work well. All the wood is scraps from my “burn bucket”.
November 30, 20241 yr Very creative Paul. Excellent work too. I really like the drawer pull. Thanks for sharing the idea. I think I have one of the router base sharpening fixtures too come to think of it. It was in a bunch of "stuff" I bought at a yard sale. I believe mine was sold by Sears-Craftsman during the 70's for their routers. Hmmm, wonder where I "stored" it.
November 30, 20241 yr Popular Post I like it Pauley. I have often thought about buying a Drill Doctor replacement wheel to set up for sharpening bits. They are diamond wheels. Might be something you want to look into for your carbide bits.

Also, when I got it from eBay, it said it could only handle 1/4 shaft bits. So I looked into it a bit further and found the collet can be removed a 1/2 shank bit fits perfectly.

November 30, 20241 yr Now that's an awesome idea, Pauley! I agree with @Grandpadave52 about the drawer pull!
November 30, 20241 yr Diamond, mandrel mount wheels are available for Dremels. Hard to tell from the picture but the wheel you have may be a diamond wheel. Some brands resemble yours with the holes. The ones I have (Harbor-Freight) are without the holes.

The drawer pull is something I had left over from another project and thought it would be fun to use it on this.

January 12, 20251 yr I don’t, I’m not sold on sharpening my own router bits. Now I do buy a lot of $10 bits. It might be worth it salvage those for further use in another area of the shop..
