November 25, 20241 yr Popular Post Hmmm..have a small forest of clamps to remove....then clamp up more parts... Just the usual "puttering around in the shop"
November 25, 20241 yr Popular Post some dummy (me) showed a pic of the little tree ornament I made...and now i have 2 moms and 4 kids planning to visit next week to make similar ornaments for themselves and to give to others. which means i need to go glue up some more blanks and make a few examples so the kiddos will have some idea what can be made. i'll provide close supervision to the kiddos as they make their own....... someone needs to tell me to stop creating work for myself...... anyone???? Bueller?

November 25, 20241 yr Popular Post shhhh...... i'm playing the 'grumpy innkeeper' for our church's Christmas play. i spend most of the play yelling at the kids and calling them foolish. at the very end, i come around and admit that I was foolish and angry. yeah, i'm a pretty soft touch. watched the movie "A man called Otto" a few nights ago....man did it hit close to home......a lonely widower with a heart condition who used to be an engineer and is pretty good at things mechanical and woodworking......and i'm a lonely widower with a heart condition who used to be an engineer and is pretty good at things mechanical and woodworking........brought a few tears to my eyes.....

I first saw the 2015 Swedish version "A Man Called Ove", with subtitles and it was just as moving, loved the Tom Hanks version too. It's a healthy heartwarming nod to all the Widowers out there, hang in their Dab, it's gotta be hard at times, I can only imagine.
November 25, 20241 yr Popular Post I need to go back to work so I can get some rest. Packing up Q'bert for a trip. Will be spending the holiday in Toledo Bend State park on the TX/LA border. Meeting other family there. Thanksgiving in the woods with a non-traditional menu. We are bringing Birria tacos to the feast. During the 4 night stay, I'll also be running a POTA activation from the park. Testing a rare Halo antenna on loan from a friend. These hard to find, omni-directional antennas have a legendary reputation for their ultra sensitive receive properties. Built this portable mast system for the purpose. The bit in the center that forms the tripod is military surplus from the 70's. Tripod legs are 1 1/2 x 10' EMT conduit and in the center is a Rohn 30' mast. Strong, stable, portable, and requires no guys to support the pole. Edited November 25, 20241 yr by forty_caliber

November 26, 20241 yr Popular Post Busy weekend for me anyways; haircut, brunch out and a couple of errands Saturday. I was able to watch all of youngest granddaughters events this weekend. Not the same as being there but I could follow in real time along with a swim app I subscribe. Today AM was prepping both mentally and physically for the bladder "scope" procedure. Wasn't pleasant, but not nearly as bad as I conjured up. Results yielded some good news for a change at least for the short term. No longer carrying "excess baggage" around at least for now. What a blessing after 71 days. Praying that sustains at least through the holidays. That said ,written, he's referred me to a specialist in Indy for further evaluation and treatment. Mrs. & I enjoyed a nice late lunch out followed by a quick stop at the donut "factory outlet." I was allowed to peruse unsupervised for another 6 pack (yes, donuts). On to the pharmacy to get an Rx. A single pill; had to be taken within 12 hours of today's procedure. Insurance covered all but 48 cents of it. Cheaper than the donuts. Assuming all goes well, plan on going to grandsons basketball game tomorrow. Rest of the week trying to catch up on anything and everything I can from the last 71 days. Then, there is the matter of that six pack, 'er four pack, which will need attention before Thanksgiving. Edited November 26, 20241 yr by Grandpadave52
November 26, 20241 yr Popular Post Saturday I took my daughter and granddaughter out for an early dinner. Sunday I drove out to West Texas to the processor to pick up the meat from the 2 deer I shot earlier this month. Today my granddaughter and I got out the Christmas decorations and decorated the tree, she did most of the decorating, I handled the logistics. 😁 This week is all about family so I really have nothing planned for the shop. November 26, 20241 yr Popular Post Did more decorations this morning, will I ever get done? The internet monopoly sent me a new Modem . Speeds better but not seeing WiFi I expected. Finally got to the orange box and even tho inventory showed 123 sheets galv tin they had none in 8 ft. Went to the blue box and they had plenty. So hauled that back to the ranch. Put up some brackets for rafters and hope to get all that in tomorrow.

November 27, 20241 yr Popular Post Bought some router bits at an online auction & picked them up today. Most of the 1/2" shank bits still have a nice edge on them. The round-over bit with the white guide bushing is worth the $27.50 I paid.
