Here we go folks!

Every granddaughter lives in a world of Unicorns, rainbows and enchanted castles so I will attempt to create an Intarsia to bring the vision to life. Stay tuned -this will be a fun project.

Just nod and agree Mike. You'll get smarter as they get older. BTW, great recovery!

Hi All

Got the rest of the pieces cut, shaped and glued-up for the subject section of my project. Still have a little more detailing to do but I'll do that towards the end of the project. By gluing this section together  I can use it to trace the outline onto the pattern accurately and start designing the rest of the foreground and background sections.

Added 7 pieces of ebony  as details pieces so up to 25 pieces from 6 woods. Fun has just begun!!

Hi Everyone

Well-I ended up changing horses, or in this case unicorns in mid stream for this project. Better Half told me she didn't think the rider looked young enough to be our granddaughter so back to the drawing board to come up with a more suitable subject. This is what I ended up with. Has 48 pieces from 11 woods. Still have some detailing to do but can do that any time. Time to have some fun!!

Hi Everyone

A little progress on my new Grandkids project. Got the little castle  all cut, shaped and glued together adding 28 pieces from holly, pernambuco, sycamore and ebony . I cheated a little for the windows by making a special  tool to make the rectangular  recesses  then mixing ebony dust and white glue to go into the recesses. Up to 76 pieces from 13 woods and counting .

Hi All

Been a couple of weeks since I've had a chance to work on my Intarsia  project. Been working on getting our bedroom ready to put down new hardwood floor. Had to rip out the old carpet and padding, paint the walls, repair some of the trim and replace the hardware on the doors-you know-fun stuff that comes with home ownership. I did have a chance to do a bit more design work on the pattern. got the routing done for the frame inlays  and got the first of the little fairies cut and glued together. .92 pieces from 16 woods and counting.

Glad all is well and just sidetracked with other responsibilities. Now back to the fun stuff.

Hi All

Got the little rainbow blank all cut and glued up. Made from 7 bandsaw cut strips 3/16"T x1/32" W x 4" L. In order to make the arc on these delicate strips without breaking, I had to use my homemade wood bending iron. By adding heat and pressure over the length of the strip it allows me to bend the pieces without breaking or splintering and makes the glue-up much easier. 99 pieces from 16 woods . To be continued !!
