October 7, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Sorry for the late start on Monday's topic guys. Woke up late and was late for work
October 7, 20241 yr Popular Post Had a great time at the Belton Hamfest. There were eight from the local club. Sold enough stuff to buy a (new to me) radio. One of the best Super Hetrodynes ever made. Kenwood TS-590s. No software defined stuff on this one. Works like a champ. .40

October 7, 20241 yr Popular Post Out early especially for me right now. Had 2 appointments with Urologist beginning at 9A. ~hour drive with traffic. Finished about NOON which included several evaluations and consultations. Can't compliment the entire team there enough. That said, the visit wasn't as I had hoped. Did get rid of one "appliance" briefly, but after numerous tests and scans, a "new & improved attachment" was inserted. Go back in 28 days for further evaluations similar to today. Already dreading that especially knowing what is to come. On a positive note, since I was a "good boy" (well as good as one can be for this type of visit) during the doctor visit, the Mrs. allowed, accompanied and supervised me into the local Casey's to choose and purchase a six pack (of Casey's donuts). Enjoying 1/2 of one (a tasty, pumpking spice cake) now with some hot chocolate. So finally the donut drought and famine has ended...at least in West Central Indiana. And that my friends is the highlight of my week.

It was probably disguised as a radio in the family room. Only the Shadow Knows for sure. Superheterodyne Receivers: A Simplified Explanation Imagine tuning a radio to your favorite station. To do this, the radio needs to be able to pick out a specific signal from the countless others flying through the air. This is where superheterodyne receivers come in. How Does it Work? Signal Reception: The radio antenna captures the incoming radio waves (signals). Local Oscillator: A local oscillator generates a signal at a frequency slightly different from the incoming signal. Mixing: The incoming signal and the local oscillator signal are mixed together. This process creates a new signal called the intermediate frequency (IF). The IF is typically a fixed frequency, regardless of the original radio frequency. Amplification and Filtering: The IF signal is amplified and filtered to remove unwanted noise. Demodulation: The IF signal is demodulated to extract the audio or data contained within the original radio signal. Why Use a Superheterodyne Receiver? Improved Sensitivity: The IF signal can be amplified more effectively than the original radio frequency signal, leading to better sensitivity. Simplified Design: Using a fixed IF frequency allows for simpler and more efficient circuit design. Reduced Image Frequency Interference: Image frequency interference, which can occur in direct conversion receivers, is minimized in superheterodyne receivers. In essence, a superheterodyne receiver is a clever way to convert a high-frequency radio signal into a lower-frequency signal that is easier to process and amplify. When a pretty girl on Fiji wants to talk to me. I want to be able to modulate and demodulate her signals .40

October 7, 20241 yr Popular Post Careful driving through Virginia with one of those.....You WILL get pulled over, as they will think you are using an "illegal" radar detector....They use scanners to look for such things...

Reminds me of the time my dad finally met a woman with a sexy voice he talked to on the C.B. radio back in the late 60's early 70's. Found out she was about 350 lbs. when he met her.

IDK about all the technical radio-eze stuff; way, way above my paygrade, but back in the day when the tubes finally warmed up in that 'Ole Super Hetrodyne, when you kicked her into overdrive, she would fly. As for the radio, I mastered on-off-volume and station select. A buddy of mine from central Florida showed me if you put a spud (technical term potato) on the antenna your reception would improve. No difference noted between white or red. Now, does that pretty girl in Fiji have a name? Edited October 7, 20241 yr by Grandpadave52

October 8, 20241 yr Popular Post By talk about straying off topic you boys are in TRRRRouble now. No body tell John what happened. I been back and forth to the ranch all day. Started out to hook up the brush hog and finally figured out that the drive was too long . off to home shop to cut it and thankfully I had a good cut off wheel chucked up. That think was thick. Back to Ranch and got it all hooked up. WELLL it did not cut. Knew blades were dull but it did not even bruise the tall grass. Ok so we are going to remove the blades and sharpen, Son decides we need new blades?. Got a call and we have to go to AG and pack up our displays (long story) . Back to blades and I see that they are not bent just badly dull. OK we will take them off, NOT. I remember we have some grinding disc and will use drills battery power. Not totally thru but did get a small edge on them. Yep got tired of that and went back to ripping that log. finished and got home at 6. A long day , we have never spent more than 3 hours working down there . OK longer when we burn,
